I am thinking of converting a red laser to IR. Has anyone done this successfully? how did you do it,  and what were the results?

I found this from another thread.

Buy the beamshot laser and switch the diode in it. Ir diode is on lower left of page.

tacticalsupplies.us/BeamshotLaser.html

Diode:
tacticalsupplies.us/modules.html

Im still torn as I want a IR laser, but cant justify the $1000 for a PAQ-4C.

C4IGRANT has this laser for $400, Im interested in it due to its size and $400 pricetag.

I will have to see some reviews before I make a decision, hopefully it will be a good IR otherwise I will be buying a PAQ-4 after XMAS.

Thanks alot for the links, my man!
seems easy enough to buy a laser, and ask for a replacement module in IR flavor.
I'd much rather build my own than blow $1000 on a laser, just because of the color.
It seems I"ve read of a few people saying they modified their own,  but damned if
you can get any pictures or specifics. Maybe I'll just do it myself and post pictures.

Sorry no pics or how to's

It would seem that the people converting to IR are keeping their conversion "under wraps"

Follow the link for tactical supplies, Tim will talk to you about the modules.  I've tried two of his modules, one for the Beamshot 1000, and one for the 5000.  Of the two, I like the 5000 module better, beam seems better focused around 100 yards.

Haven't spent the time to finish the conversion yet, you will need to tinker with the windage and elevation screw lengths a little to make up for module size difference.

Anyway, Tim will be happy to visit with you, if you have the persuasion to tinker on your own.  The IWAL, however may be better if you like instant gratification.

BTW, I'm not any kind of expert on this, and this is all I know on the subject.  When I have time to tinker enough, and take pictures, I will.

I appreciate the info. I think when I get payed next week it'll be project time!
maybe I can sell my Corsak IR laser to fund the new project.

ETA: that IWAL 2 does look bad ass, though.............
$400 you say? do you know what the wavelength/ power output is?

Just get one of these jap knock-offs and save yourself alot of money. In fact, buy several!

Yes yes yes I know its meant for airsoft, but it works fine on my AR. I just dont think it would hold up to well in the rain.
I suppose if you know what you're doing, you could take the IR module of it and put it in a sturdier housing.
