I've been looking at these for awhile now, and also following the threads on the candlepowerforums. I think the EDC lights are about the best small flashlights that I've seen. They are the next generation from the (now out of business) ARC flashlights, and HDS was making the lights for ARC. Very bright, very small, very versatile. I'm about ready to order a couple, but the back order list is very long, and there's quite a wait involved. It's really more oriented to being a general purpose flashlight, than it is a tactical light, but a "tactical momentary" programming selection is available in the menu. When you select this option, then it only works as tactical momentary, and none of the other options are accessible until you reset the light by removing the battery for 1 minute, and re-installing it. I guess this is okay, but it is a bit cumbersome to try to go from this mode to any other mode. However, this is not the case when using any other option besides tactical momentary, so I guess it's not that bad. The designers really intended this to be more of a general purpose light with alot of available intensity when you want it, but lower intensity for normal everyday use(to conserve battery life). I like these lights alot, and there will definitely be at least one of them in future. The 30-40 day wait that is described on the website is very optimistic, and don't be surprised to have to wait several months to get one. The guys on candlepowerforums are just starting to get theirs, with their pre-orders in since last July. There's a big backlog. |
| I would suggest checking out a company(I admit it is chinese) called Nuwai. They are a large producer of flashlights that are sold to retailers who market them under various other names, streamlight being one of them. You can check them out on ebay, or do a google search for "nuwai". Their Q3 model does the exact same thing as these stateside lights(and more I think for the money). I picked one up off of ebay for like $40 including shipping. I also did some research on them by looking at some independent reviews, and they ranked very high across the board. Just something to look into. I will try and post a little more when mine arrives. |
