I am looking for a weapons mountable light that has a quick detach, red lens or light capable, and has a high output lamp. Surefire is great and have been looking at the 6P but want to know about pentagon lights or pelican. I will be deploying soon and want something better than an angle neck (recent field problem showed that). It will be used in real life not a safe queen type weapon . Thanks ahead of time

Since you are using your light for REAL work, I would make sure to get something that is waterproof, shockproof and has a lock out tailcap. The 6P doesn't meet these reqs. So far from what I can tell, the Pentagon lights (X2HA and X3HA) are a good choice for your needs..

Aside from Surefire, the only other options are Laser Devices or the Pentagon Lights.  The only other possibility I'd consider is the new Pelican M6-HA 3W LED coming out in a month or two.  Still though, only Surefire has std. output and high output lamps if that is a factor for you.

Thanks for the quick answers both of you are great dealers, anyway. Wanted to know more about the shockproof and waterproof. I thought SF were both. I like the look of the pentagon but want to know where I can purchase. Also what about red lens or red light capable. I was reading that the pentagon lights have some red led ones but that they are not as bright. Would it be more adventageous to buy a white light and put a filter on it or buy the red led versions?

Certain std. carry models from SF are shock isolated systems but not all, their primary weaponslights are all shock isolated with battery retention (except the Scout.)  The SF lights are water resistant and for most occassions such as rain or quick dunks will not suffer any ill effects, deep water or prolonged periods of being underwater may yield different results.

As for the Pentagon lights both myself and C4 carry them.

The Pentagon Multi-task lights will have a small row of low output LED's for basic closer in task and then have a main Luxeon LED for high output performance.  A incandescent light will offer the greatest range but if you want low output mode for general navigation you'll have to consider the Pentagon Multi-task series or a Surefire M500A or M900A.  Adding a red filter to an incandescent light will lower the output but still be exceptionally bright.

SureFire products are well supported and have many years of use - they are 'battle proven'.

I would be concerned about whether Pentagonlights can support their products (even a year down the road) and extremely concerned whether they hold up in use.

Be the guinea pig for the rest if you want.

It seems to me that you are trying to have one flashlight that can be used as both a weapon-mounted light and also as a handheld. This doesn't seem ideal to me.

How about getting one of these Dealers to set you up with a SureFire G2 as a WeaponLight (Z48 Clickie, Z32 Shock Isolated bezel & ring mount) and a 6P with Z32 shock isolated bezel for handheld. You can get an SC1 Spares Carrier with a spare P60 (or even a high output P61 lamp) and a bunch of SF123A batteries.
That way your handheld and weapon-mounted lights use the same bezels, lamp assemblies, switches and batteries. Everything is interchangeable and replacements can easily be ordered - these are very common components.

Just giving a different option whilst tying to keep the price down and maximise your investment in terms of performance, durability and reliability.

Best regards,

Al

Yes, I am trying to have one for both because of cost and size. I don't want to have to take too much sh*t to the field when I go. It would be mostly a handheld but when it comes time to kick doors I could attach it to my weapon. So in otherwords, mostly a flashlight but sometimes a weaponslight.

and I appreciate your options and your input, I've always used an angle neck flashlight but they are crap compared to the couple of SF and pelicans I saw on this last field problem

If you want a light that can be dual role and still be a full weaponsgrade light then the following would be worthy choices -

From top to bottom:
Laser Devices OP-6 (available in 9v also)
Surefire Classic 650 (available in 9v also)
custom configured SF Millennium 9v build up

All can be mounted with most 1" mounts -
