www.blackhawkvideo.com/videos/night-ops/opstest.html This is rough cut video that is not quite ready for prime time. However, you will get the strobing potential in terms of disorienting opponets out of the clip. I personally could not wait for final cut...so here it is. Hope you enjoy. |
From what I had heard originally, the 9v was going to be in the $250 ballpark and the 6v in the $190 area. I am a little suprised. I've heard nothing but good things from reputable sources about the strobing effect though, supposedly it really works. |
| That is true, they are still a great deal. I was just spoiled by what I heard earlier. When I initially heard the prices I listed I said no way, that's too cheap. But I didn't hear anything to the contrary until now and had come to accept the insanely cheap price as going-to-happen, which it obviously was not. |

This is a 6-volt setup. It will not be for everybody that is for sure. Originally we were going to do incandescent 6-volt & 9-volt lights (and we still may). But as things developed we decided that there were plenty of "also rans" out there already. The original "SpecWar" protos are still quite viable. That being said, it is not in my nature to run with the pack. So..... We decided to go down a more difficult but advanced path at some serious risk. When we arrived on the other side, we came out with a product that outperforms the best of breed on almost every single front. This puts us as leaders not a group that is copying somebody else's design or direction. We will most likely drop back in fill in with less expensive but still high quality products. Once we learn the game better then we can make intelligent decisions to reduce costs with volume. The end user benefits with price reduction and a push in the general market for better designs and products. |
Fair enough. It's commendable that you are trying to innovate instead of simply making an alternative product. But get to work on the weapons lights, damnit! |

Wow, I saw one of these ever so briefly at SWAT roundup, I only saw it in the day time. This low light video really shows a lot more than I was able to see then. The new finishes look phenominal. Its hard to say these lights are priced high compared to another because from what I have seen, I dont know what to even compare it to? Ken, been waiting for years for a light that came from a company you were involved with to come out. This looks to be well worth the wait. Cant wait for the chance to get one of these. I will look for you all at Shot show! |

Basic ho-hum instructional video in the works. The body is 1" in dia so it will mount with a plethra of current mounting setups. We are also pursuing several proprietary setups as well. The only thing at this point a 9-volt power supply on our package would give you is a longer runtime. Right now this thing runs 72 minutes flat out at full power then another 18 minutes of gradually reducing light output. 400 hours on the lowest dim setting. Additionally you will have a larger/heavier setup which folks don't like either. I believe we are already banging the LED as hard as it can be safely hit. When we get LED's or LED arrays that can take advantage of the 9-volts then we will tap that. |
| I AM IMPRESSED WITH THE WAY THE LIGHT LOOKS AND OPERATES WITH THE STROBE FUNCTION. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE HOW THAT WOULD WORK IN ONE OF OUR SWAT CALL OUTS OR HR WARRRANTS. THAT STROBE EFFECT WOULD DEFINITELY PUT EM BACK A BIT. ARE THERE ANY PLANS FOR AWEAPON MOUNTED VERSION? PERHAPS SIMILAR TO THE SUREFIRE M951C SERIES LIGHTS WITH A DEDICATED WEAPON MOUNT SUCH AS THE DUAL THUMBSCREWS (MY FAV) OR AN ARMS MOUNT? I HAVE ONE ON MY SWAT RIFLE AND ONE ON BACK ORDER FOR MY PERSONAL SBR. I WOULD BE WILLING TO PUT THE BACKORDERED 951 ON HOLD IF THERE IS A CHANCE THAT A WEAPON MOUNTED VERSION WILL BE COMING OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

The answer is most definitely yes. A remote switch is in queue right now, I cannot give you a date. It will be trickier than the average setup due to the electro gizmo stuff we have packed in the back. It weapons mountable with a vertical foregrip right now. SureFire makes a great system, so you still can’t go wrong there… In the meantime, should we start a pool to see which manufacturer is going to try and follow this strobing path first? |

Just an FYI for those who have posted about preordering info. We have all of the Gladius colors available for preorder at our websites at www.strategosstore.com and www.order-gear.com. We will collect all of the payment and shipping information at the time of the order, but will not bill credit cards until the lights are available for shipment. We will be fulfilling these orders on a first come, first served basis as lights are available. Thanks and let us know if we can help further. Congratulations Duffy...you made the top 20! |

Excellent looking product. I may have just shelved my plans to get a Surefire weapon light for my Benelli M4 shotgun. The price is definately right. I'm willing to pay the money for function opposed to a cheaper price and some shortcuts taken. This light when used in a group will really throw someone off. I'm interested to find more out about the activation system. -Steve |

Quite a few folks have emailed me with additional questions and I appreciate the interest. I have updated the Overview/Specifications Sheet and it can be downloaded here: night-ops.com/pdfs/Gladius-Specifications.pdf Best to everybody. Ken J. Good Night-Ops Brand Manager |

Luxeon III - Estimated at 80+ Lumens. We have not put it into an integrating sphere yet. Keep in mind we are doing some proprietary things behind the LED, not just throwing electricity at it. That being said we have measured Lux against the leading competitors and the Gladius was 3-5 more intense at various distances when compared to their top line 6-volt & 9-volt LED entries. We are getting all the lab data and will post as it is available. Here are some beam comparisons of the Gladius vs Incandescent: From my Hotel Room: Standard Output 65 Lumen Lamp from the Top 6-volt in the industry on the Left - Gladius on the Right Incandencent - 60 minute total runtime Gladius - 72 Minutes Full Power (no reduction in light output) + 18 minutes of additional, gradually reducing light at full power ![]() High Output 120 Lumen Lamp from the Top 6-volt in the industry on the Left - Gladius on the Right High Output 20 minutes total - Unknown how much of that is at 120 lumens. ![]() Estimated Lamp life on the Incandent - 60 hours Estimated Lamp life on the LED - 70,000 hours (at that point you will have est 30% reduction in light output on the LED) From my Backyard: ![]() ![]() The first consumer technical review can be found here: CPF Flashlight Review |
Ken, you've been hanging around the candlepowerforums guys haven't ya ? Thanks very kindly for those preliminary specs (being and engineer and flashaholic dooms you to always asking for specs and lumen numbers) Based on those beam shots, I think your 80 lumens is going to be right on the money. Damn, I was hoping you were going to give me some crappy numbers--now I'm probably going to be "forced" to buy one hehe. Probably a good thing I passed on the Surefire U2 so I can get one of these instead |
|
Yes, the folks at Candlepower keep me on my toes. I am not a engineer but an end-user, knuckle dragger. I have to learn to speak "ebonic-electronics".... When folks ask for lumen ratings, they need to understand that is just one factor in the over performance signature in the output and performance of the light itself. Color temp, size of hot spot, size of corona, the quality and clarity of the hot spot & corona, intensity at various distances, actual runtime in terms of maximum output not just the overall runtime etc, etc. For example and LED putting out 80 lumens if you are on the recieving end seems to "hit" your eyes/perception much "harder" than an incandecent. I am speculating that because it is probably emitting in a tighter frequency range, the eye is overwhelmed on that freq as opposed to spreading out over a broader frequency range of colors. One light that claims 120 lumens is great, but there is much more to balance out when selecting the tool. |
