I recently purchased a used M500 light from the boards and when I tried to mount it, there was just no way that it is going on the rifle. (20"Colt).  I tried it on two different Colt uppers and it would no fit either.  Has anyone else had this problem, and yes I've tried a handguard removal tool.

I'm assuming it is the rifle model? With mine, I had to use a rubber mallet to smack it together near the delta ring. I know there are a few threads on this matter but I don't know if they are older than 30 days. SF used to have installation instructions on their website, too IIRC.

You do have the right model for your rifle?  Round cap by the front site post vs. triangle cap?  Mine is a M511A and works only with triangle cap.

Mine took a hell of a lot of beating to get in place as well.  The paperwork says it's a "crush to fit" design and it's intentional.  Seems like just bad QC to me, but I eventually got the thing on there.  Don't know what I will do when my Form 1 comes back and I have to remove the thing to put the 10.5" upper together.  Maybe it will fit better next time, but I am not looking forward to finding out.

I installed my M500A by using "Quick Clamps"...There still were slight gaps so I took the clamps to the range with me and after firing about a 100 rounds quickly, I clamped it while it was hot and solved the issue.
