I have a 12mw visible green laser from Aimshot. I dislike the mount that it came with. I'm looking for a quality mount that will maintain its zero. I'm mounting this laser to a shotgun. A Benelli M4 to be exact. A throw lever mount would be nice, but I want something that will hold up. This mount would be fine, I'm unsure which one it is and if it comes in the size I need.
Since Surefire is dragging their ass on the release of the M80 railed forend, and I'd prefer to have the mount a little further up anyhow, I am going to use the Side Armor mount with the extended top Picatinny rail so I can mount my EOTech further up, or at the very least support the base of the optic better, I have it now mounted at the very end of the stock rail. The sidearmor unit will also be a good place to mount my Surefire flashlight whenever I get around to buying it. My biggest delay is waiting for the Surefire forend so I can mount a vertical forward grip (still debating that between the Tango Down and the Dieter.) I want the Surefire set up with a momentary clicker cap instead of a preasure switch. Right now, I have the laser co-witnessing the center dot of the EOTech 552. At night, when looking thru the holographic scope, you can see the beam projecting from the 3 o'clock position onto target. It makes witnessing parallax very easy. For the gauge, I plan to sight it in for 50 yards to reduce the parallax issue. Sighting it in for too close will cause further shots to progressively be off. I'd rather be an inch to the right from point blank to 50 feet.
I'm unsure if the Aimshot accepts Surefire tail caps yet. I'll try later with the tail cap from my Aviator A2 to se if the threading the same. The laser came with a preasure pad that I have mixed feelings about. Currently, I have it attached on the forend under my left hand thumb. I can think of no other way to keep a light and the laser both operable.
Hell, I can't even find the model I bought anywhere online. This thing is brand new. It is powered by one SF123a battery. The aimpoint model number is 8200, and has a 5 year warantee. Guaranteed to handle a 12 gauge recoil. At night, you can see the beam just like in the image above. Unless you're 20 feet off to either side, then it is invisible. At 12 mw, it will illuminate a room simply from the bloom. I shined it on a christmas ball, and I got an instant disco ball effect in the entire room. You've got to be very careful about reflections. This ain't your mammas cat toy. In broad daylight in the Arizona sun, I could see the dot at 100 yards. This unit is absolutely unuseable with night vision devices. It will burn out your cheap intensifiers or bloom to the point that it is unuseable. This range is perfect for my application, shotgun. I don't want to attempt to fine tune the sighting in until I get a better mount setup.
Please recommend a dealer who stocks the ring to mount the optic. Larue, ARMS, whoever makes a good one. I'd post a picture of the unit, but with the mount I rigged up, it is one fugly mofo. I had to mount it to the magazine tube, so you can see my problem. Thanks, -Steve
