I'd like to put a light on my 16" AR and I'd like some help choosing. I don't want to spend many hundreds of dollars. Not for mil or LE use - just want a light on the gun. I was about ready to get a Pelican M6, Fobus mount, and a pressure switch but the only response to a question about the Pelican implies it's not all that great. Previously, I was thinking about a Surefire G2 in the Fobus or similar but I'd like a pressure switch. The first question is how important is a pressure switch? Are any made besides the obscenely priced Surefire switches? Might a Streamlight or a Tacm III light meet my needs? Surefire m95 series is above my spending limit right now but if the others are junk, it might be worth waiting for it. Any useful discussion is appreciated. I know it's been beat to death in the past. |

Quoted: Previously, I was thinking about a Surefire G2 in the Fobus or similar Not a bad choice but I'd like a pressure switch. Why? The first question is how important is a pressure switch? Not important IMHO, just another point to fail - and wires to snag. Are any made besides the obscenely priced Surefire switches? Brightflashlights was selling one for $25 that worked with Surefires. Tacm III light meet my needs? I have a TACM III light - I MUCH prefer the less expensive G2. While the TACM is rated higher in lumens its beam center isn't as bright and has 'spots'. I've also found placement of the mount is critical (mount it too far to the rear of the TACMs tube and the light wont function. I'm also not crazy about pressure switches on wires - that can never be fixed or replaced (unlike the Surefire). I'll sell you my TACM - but I think you'd be better served by contacting BrightFlashLights and getting a G2 (with our without his pressure switch). Surefire m95 series is above my spending limit right now but if the others are junk, it might be worth waiting for it. Any useful discussion is appreciated. I know it's been beat to death in the past. |

I have the Tacm3...havent had a problem with it...its way brighter then my Surefire E2executive (which is my personal light) the beam isnt perfect like a Surefire...but it would serve the purpose to temporarily blind your enemy, and good for searching as well...IMHO. And Im not sure what the actual runtime of the TACM is but I have had mine for a while...granted I dont use it as often as my E2 but i have never replaced the batteries on it so my guess would be somewhere in the 1HR plus operating range....which is pretty damn good for the amount of Lumen output. However I still do plan to save up and EVENTUALLY buy a M961 however I cant really justify paying that much for a light that as I am not LEO or Mil. wont really use THAT often. just my .02 -brian- |

Hey Stipilot, I just bought the Pelican M6 and it is definitely a good choice for the budget minded. It feels solid, feels rugged and mounts easily using the TDI rail mount. I got the light, the TDI rail mount, and the pressure switch from Botach Tactical For $75.00. I'd post pics but not sure how to do it so I can email them if you want to see how it looks. Just one positive review for the Pelican M6 lithium from my standpoint... |
