Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - What to get??

I am about to buy my first AR-15 and want a good sight or possibly laser.  Does anyone have any recomendations ?? And not one that is a thousand dollars, I'm going to use it mainly for spotlighting small animals, but want to get the most for my money.  Also, do you think a laser would be useless??

i generally think lasers are useless.  you can't get positive target id and they may give away your position.  of course that doesn't matter if your shooting four legged vermin.

i would only suggest a laser if using an armored shield as part of a tactical/raid team.  the windows on them are bullet resistant and bend light making point of aim, not point of aim.  the laser corrects that.

If you want a good sight for animals go to the optics forum and you will get a ton of suggestions.  A laser is not what you need for that.
