I'm in the process of getting the gun trust setup and in a few months (hopefully before the inevitable Hillary coronation ) I'll have enough $$$ saved up and the paperwork completed to get the real suppressor.

In the mean time i'm thinking about spending the $40 and getting a Spikes Fake Can to practice with. I would assume the additional weight would be similar to having a real suppressor on the barrel and would be good to practice with. Has anyone used the Spikes or other similar "accessory" as a practice device? If so did it effect the accuracy at all? Is the additional weight distribution similar to what i can expect with the real thing?

Why waste your money.  It won't function like your can will in regards to rifle operations.  Other then looks, I don't see the point

Does it advertise the weight is the same?   I wouldn't assume that unless it explicitly states it.

So Strike Industries has a version that allows for the attachment of compensators, flash hiders, and brakes to make it actually functional. They advertise it as a training aid. Weight seems to be comparable. Unfortunately it won't fit under my handguard. :(

From their site:
"The Strike Industries' Cobra Series dummy suppressor is designed as a training aid eliminating unnecessary wear on your real suppressors while providing a realistic weight to your rifle for training."

I have no idea how legit that is though.

What caliber host and what real can are you planning to get?

I'm looking hard at the AAC M4-2000 but it comes in at 17.6 oz. Those fake cans seem to top out at around 11oz.

IIRC, AAC makes (or at least used to make) an inert trainer/demonstrator/display version of the M4-2000.

You'd probably have to special order it, which may take as long as getting a real suppressor, and you will probably end up paying out the nose for it... but it's an option, and you'd be able to have an exact, inert replica, and use the same mounts.

Surefire also makes one for the SOCOM-RC that they want $299 for.
