Does anyone have experience with Rail Scales? I recently saw a rifle using them and really liked the look. They seem like they would add grip of course and also potentially shield your hand from some of the barrel heat that skinny keymod rails let through. Normally with something like rail covers I'd just buy them and try them out for myself but these puppies are expensive! Any info would be appreciated.

No one uses these? I hope it's not because they're junk....I bought a couple of sets to try out. I read a review online that said they are very good quality and help block the HIGH heat that skinny keymod rails have. I mainly bought them for grip and because I like the look of them but if they help with the heat that would be awesome. My rail can get so hot without doing mag dumps or rapid shooting that  it's impossible to wrap my hand around the rail. Hopefully these will help...I'll report back after I receive them.

Let us know how they are. I'm curious about the honeycomb ones

And that right there is why your having a hard time finding someone who has them. I looked at them a while ago. Thought they looked cool but for half the price there are known quality options out there.

Yep!  Priced themselves out of the market.

I received my Rail Scales and installed them. I really like them. They feel good and look great IMO. They are nice and thin so they don't make the rail feel too bulky. I'm hoping they will help with the heat given off by the barrel a bit but honestly I'm not expecting them to make a huge difference. We will see when I get to the range..

Are they worth the cost? That is a tough one. They are a very nice product but definitely seem overpriced. IF you really like the look of them like I do and can afford them, they may be worth it to you.

I'm still amazed that people put these expensive rails (cheese graters) on their guns and then pay more money to cover them up...

Yeah, the whole $7 I spent to cover up the "cheese grater" portion of my rail really broke the bank.

I've got the golf ball looking ones on my SBR. I hit them with a little 200 grit sandpaper to make them less sharp. I really like them.

If I recall correctly, they are machined from G10. I wouldn't exactly say they are overpriced (considering what G10 1911 grips/etc go for), but using G10 in that application is overkill and easily drives costs up. Plastic or rubber does the job fine for rail covers at a much lower price. If I had to go for some fancy rail covers and cost is not a concern, I'd have them machined out of carbon fiber.

All you need is some manufacturer willing to make something similar out of plastic.

I'd like that, except the latest AR I picked up uses proprietary (ugh) rail mounting options on a monolithic upper, and I doubt someone would make something similar to fit a Geissele SMR Mk1 on my other AR.

You are correct, they are made from G-10. Probably overkill but a good material. The material and the fact that they are CNC'd likely are the reasons for the high cost.

G-10
a fiberglass based laminate. Layers of fiberglass cloth are soaked in resin and are compressed and baked. The resulting material is very hard, lightweight, and strong. Surface texture is added in the form of checkering. G-10 is an ideal material for tactical folders because of its ruggedness and lightweight. It is usually available in black.

I purchased a set of railscales last week.  I was on the fence due to the price, but I really like them a lot on my KAC URX 4.  I got them on sale from Trading Place.  Heat isn't really an issue for me regardless because I'm more of a range plinker with the occasional carbine class.  However, it allows me to consistently place my hand where it needs to be.
