Can somebody explain the pros/cons between a sling attached to the bottom vs. top of an A2 rifle stock? #confused

bottom was for over the back carry,,,, top is more user friendly for a chest carry two point attachment . but not the ideal carry like a M4 one point carry /// balanced .
