I'm not sure a Pelican case is the best option for long term storage. The foam holds moisture moreso than alternatives.  If I were going to store a firearm for ling term I would vacuum seal with dessicants after greasing the firearm.

Also check out Storm cases for a less expensive alternative to pelican.

This, foam can absorb moisture from the air if you are in a humid area. I would be looking at something else for long term storage.

If you want to protect it from impact type damage the case would be good. Otherwise buy cosmoline and soak it down, or Brownell's, Midway have some long term storage bags, or really good grease.

Replace the open cell foam with closed cell if you were thinking about long term storage.

put it in some storage bags, the heavy plastic zipseal type bags that are treated with anti rust chemicals, then store in the pelican case if you think it will get knocked around or something. Maybe some desicant packs thrown in the case before you close it would help to.

Never store bare metal in leather or foam, both will trap moisture and hold it against the firearm. Even a few weeks in a pelican case can cause some serious rusting problems.

Sprayed my foam with 100% silicone spray and haven't had any rust issues to date.

I'm like 95% sure most pelicans come with closed cell foam

It's open cell.  It's also $80 cheaper without the foam.

factory foam that comes with pelican cases is open cell and is not a good idea for long term storage unless you put the rifle in something like one of those plastic bags made for firearm storage or one of those silicone gun socks. Even with that, i would still spray it down with some type of CLP or something before I closed it up with a couple desicant packs inside.
