Hey guys, I have a colt 6920, but I wanted to change the look a little bit. My question is, how would one go about installing one of these?Link

This is my only AR, and I've never modified one before that includes barrel/flash hider work. It has the standard A2 flash hider on it currently.

And are there any better options besides the dpms ones?

Thanks for any help guys!

Sorry to jump on the same question, but I've been looking at that too and wanted to know if it will just slip over my Bushmaster M4 style barrel?
Thanks

Many years ago, I bought a slip over flash hider (manufacturer forgotten) for my CAR-15A2, which had the 1/7 twist, but the skinny barrel.  I had it on this rifle for many years, for extra weight at the end, and the "cool" look of the Vietnam era CAR.  I recently took it off, and put on the A2 flashider, which doesn't have the vent on the bottom, which prevents dust from being blown up when firing prone, and is supposed to reduce recoil. Son of a gun, despite the A2 flash hider being much lighter, I did have less recoil than the much heavier slip over flash hider.  I used some blue locktite on my slip over, and it never came loose.

This is a Vulcan Arms XM177 flash hider over an m4 profile barrel. The rear of the flash hider lines up with the barrel notch and makes it look cleaner IMHO, not sure if the DPMS does the same. To do the job you will need a wrench to remove the old flash hider, and a strap wrench to install the slipover flash hider. The A2 has wrench flats to make removal easier, the slip over does not, hence the strap wrench (or a screwdriver through the end slots will work in a pinch, but it's not my preferred method). You may also want a new crush washer to install.

ETA: Not my rifle, just an image of the Vulcan flash hider I found on google for you.

Well, my DPMS slip over arrived and I really like it. Here's a pic on my 16" Bushy M4 barrel.

I'm curious as to why you would want the slip over flash hider?  Is it just a look you are going for?  There are so many flash hiders to choose from that ...IMO...look better and perform better.  Really curious!

I had one back in the 90's for the "retro" look. After a while, it got old.

If you are specifically looking to do a replica 'Nam era carbine, then go ahead and do it, but, you
said this is your only AR, so I'd recommend staying with the A2.

I had one one because I liked the look. They are pretty damn heavy though.

I'm sending both my 6920 barrels to ADCO for a chop and reattach of a spikes dynacomp to bring them to 16" OAL.  The last thing they need before I'll consider them "complete".
