| What is the purpose of the front and back option for installation of the swivel? Is there a proper setting and if so, why? |
|
Yes, that's the one, but I'm referring to the swivel part. It is not centered. I've seen most of them set up with the swivel closest to the butt end of the gun, others set up with the swivel closest to the muzzle end of the gun.
If closest to the butt, it allows the sling to lie flat along the forestock, but then makes the swivel stand proud of the attachment the other way as in when the gun is slung. Any reason why? Also, this thing looks cheezy, and I have milspec ones. Do they ever pop off? I've heard some slide back and forth but I think one layer of tar tape should cure that. |

I've seen a lot of things fail on M4 Carbines. I don't know that I've ever seen a properly installed side sling swivel fail.
My unscientific intuition would be that the rivet holding the actual loop would fail before two roll pins supported by the pinned FSB would fail. ~Augee |
