I live in an Apartment complex until my lease runs out in 6 months. Until then, I needed a way to get out to go shooting without everyone knowing what I've got. And there's several gyms close by sooo...

Total coin involved :

3 Tennis racquet case = $15.
Piece of foam = $4.48
and an hour an a half of my time.

I plan to clean it up, put a layer of a resin down to stiffen it, and line the cavity with some felt. Anyone know of a resin that wont attack the cheapo stryrofoam, and wont add too much weight?

That's pretty creative, just be sure to follow through with proper attire, etc.
I went through a pretty convoluted process of trying to set up an incognito carry bag that ultimately looked more tactical than anything I could have purchased with that intent.  Blackhawk Tactical carry bag stuffed with cutout closed cell foam probably didn't fool anyone.
Simple tool box with broken down M4 serves the purpose.  And so does your setup.

I've been using one for a while now. Works great and was cheap. I would ditch the foam. I imagine it will make a huge mess. It doesn't print with my SBR. I am trying to post a photo from an iPad and can not. Will get to my droid or pc.

I didn't want to use the foam at first. When I put it in, you couldn't exactly tell that it was a rifle, but you could definitely tell it was not a tennis racquet. Unfortunately, living in WA, we can't have SBR's, I'd kill for it right about now.

You did an awesome job with the set up.  I found my version.

The Sully stock is on another gun now and I've changed he light mount but It is a really slick set up.

Here it is now.  I love that A1 upper.  Bought it here a year or so ago.

Very cool. I'm a DIY'er, or at least tell myself I am.

Added another update in the OP. I decided against adding another piece on top and sandwiching the rifle in, so I added a couple straps to secure it to the piece I've already made. Also prepped for the finish around the outside. Next is bondo for perfect fit, a sealer (I'm thinking rhino lining it,) and then felt to protect finish of rifle. Added a small sleeve on bungees for the muzzle to slide into, so it doesn't tear up the case (It's a tight fit.)

ETA - Nice toes

Good work.
Not sure about resin to stiffen it but you can use 3M spray adhesive to glue felt lining to the styrofoam.

I have not tried a folding chair bag but have seen photos and read good reports of using them too.  One person suggested lining the bag with an old school iso pad sleeping to break up the sillouette and for padding too.  I have a Sneaky Bag which I love but they're out of business now and the tennis racket bag works almost as well for a fraction of the cost.  The BFG bags are great too.  I have a small one and rifle length one.

Here is a BFG bag with an 11.5" BCM SBR and A5 Stock.  It is a tight fit but works.

A 10.5" LMT SBR on the small Sneaky Bag and then in it.

The same 11.5" BCM before the A5 extension.

The Sneaky Bag has an Eagle bandoleer in the small bottom pouch with 4 30's and 2 Glock mags in .  There is also a doccument pouch at the top with color photocopies of my tax stamps sealed in plastic.

I'd kill for SBR's to be legalized in WA.

One thing I think I will enjoy about the tennis case is I'll be able to bring ammo and anything else I need in a gym bag, and it will fit right in. My apartment complex is a bit sketchy (I've answered the door at 3am to a guy pounding, looking for drugs. Dealer lived next door. He's been evicted already though.) so anything I can do the look normal makes me happy. Like I said... six months. Six short months...
