Can't comment on others as a comparison...

But I love the padded VTAC.  It's comfortable, affordable, and super easy to adjust.

The padded Larue/Vtac is all I use now...

I used to have a MS2 but have never used an MS3.

It seems to me that these are two very different animals. The MS3 being a convertible 1 to 2-point sling, and the VTAC being a comfortable quick adjust 2-point.
I don't own either, so my opinion is just based upon the demonstration videos from both manufacturers and is only just that, my opinion, but I personally would spring for the MS3. The VTAC looks like it's just too involved for practical use in the scenarios that would require all of the adjusting that they demonstrate.
If you want the abilities of a single-point as well as the 2-point, you need the MS3. If you don't, I see nothing wrong with the VTAC and it's adjustment features are very nice looking, but in a combat arena I wouldn't want to be grabbing for an adjustment strap.

I like the VTAC sling a lot. The Blue Force Vickers sling is also very nice.

I have both. I use them on different ARs. The MS3 spends damn near all it's time in two point mode. Guess I'm just a two point kinda guy.

I have the MS3. Its great as a single point. Sits perfect and comfortable. And when you dont want single point just disconnect it and connect it to your other ling mount for a two point.

What the configuration of the rifle you're mounting it to and how do you intend to use it (range, duty, classes, etc.)

The MS3 and VCAS are both excellent.  Your rig and needs will help to narrow down your choices.

I have tried to become a single point fan, but I just can not learn to like them. I have one of the LaRue two point slings and it works great. I would go with the 2 point personally but it's up to you.

This is where I am. I run with the 1 point when in plate carrier and bang my nads when I let the carbine go to pick up radio, etc.

personally––Vickers victory sling with a 2-1 triglide.

Or a little more money but a little more comfortable a vickers padded with 2-1 triglide.

Before you decide, check out Savvy Sniper's quad sling.  I'm a huge fan.  I just got another one last week. They are customizable and top quality .  The people who have them seem to al become diehard customer .  They are worth taking a look at.

Take a look at the Tac-Strap as well. Haven't used it, but I have heard good reviews. It is like the MS3 in regards to being a 1/2 point convertible, but it is much wider.

I have the Tac-Strap its is very nice . Easy to use , inexpensive , & affordable . Very high quality as well . Works well as a one or two point sling . Their website Tac-Strap.com isnt the greatest but it is just a guy making them in his basement lol . He also responds very quickly to emails . Nice guy .

I'm pretty seriously contemplating trying my first tactical event tomorrow with my AR. I've read through the rules a little, know i need to bring the sidearm, etc. As far as the sling goes, i've got the one that came with my colt LEO carbine. nothing fancy, just a basic sling. it attaches at the rear of the buttstock and the left side in front of the forearm grip. i have it adjusted so i could wrap it around my left arm for stabilizing offhand shots previously. how to i best adjust and carry the rifle using this sling setup tomorrow? am i completely screwing myself by not having something better? thanks for any input.

I've always favored the 1-2 point slings, but gave up on them for a while. I tried the ms2, and the tac-strap, and hated them both. They were way too uncomfortable for me, and the tac-strap was pretty stiff when adjusting it's slider.

I went back to my vicker's 2 point, untill I could get a Tactical link 1-2 point sling, and I believe I found exactly what I was looking for in a 1-2 point sling. It's a little pricy, but well worth it to me.  The thing I didn't like about the other two was when you switched from one to two point, the top of the rifle would tilt out away from you, and the mag, and grip would dig into you. The Tactical link sling does not do this at all, plus the TL sling is wider, and thicker than the ms2, and tac-strap, and more comfortable.

This is just what worked for me, and is just my opinion, so take it with a grain of salt.

I think the ms2, and tac-strap would be better with the QD triglide, and QD swivel attachment's.

thanks for the input. the rules made it sound like all you could use was a basic sling in a constant configuration, but there were guys that had all kinds of slings at the event. i just loosened my stock sling enough to put over right shoulder under left with rifle upside down against my pointing down and left. pretty simple, but worked fine for the competition, able to pick it up quick, drop it down and draw pistol as needed. may look into some of these others you mention and do some more digging. thanks!

gman,  I think the only way to improve on the MS2 is to buy a MS3.

Without knowing what types of things you'll be doing with the rifle...

You might try the LaRue/VTAC and start with that.  Its a really nice sling and comfy!  Some don't like the long free-running end.  For me, I'm a pretty small guy and so padded slings are a hard fit to me.  Often the padding will use up much needed adjustment space because I need to have that sling adjusted way small compared to most guys.  I can really cinch down that LaRue/VTAC to get it nice and tight to my body if needed.  I'm certainly not roping out of helicopters or anything, but its nice to be able to secure it.  The free running end hasn't bothered me...yet.  The LaRue version is nice because it comes with the quick release extension QD swivels all ready to go.  I've got one directly from VTAC and the LaRue one and the two I have are made of different material.  I can't say whether one is better than the other or sturdier or what not....but it seems to be a different webbing.

If you think you might want to run it like a single point, then you can pick up a 2-1 Triglide attachment.

If you find yourself shooting around alot of barriers and wanting to use it in single point alot more often...then you might want to go for an MS3/ASAP Plate.  IMHO, its better for folks that do shooting around barriers more often.

For me personally and my own build, transitioning to support-side shoulder is a little trickier with a LaRue/VTAC.  The 2-1 Triglide on the LaRue/VTAC would let me run it like a single-point but, for me, the 2-1 triglide gets in the way alot and isn't comfortable.

In the end, personally I preferred the LaRue and run it with a DD QD mount up front on 3 o'clock of my rail and then a Noveske QD mount endplate.  With my Magpul CTR stock that has QD mounts on it, it gives me alot of options.  I can run it with the rear on the stock and the front on the rail attachment which keeps the stock real snug against my body when cinched up...or...I can run it with the front on the rail attachment and the rear on the Noveske endplate which makes allows me to make support side transitions easier.

One of these days I'm going to try out the padded VCAS, but some tell me that the padded portion just doesn't work as well for smaller guys.

Hope that helps some.

Just to confirm 1Wolf, the sling you are describing "is" the padded version. If so I'll be ordering tonight.

Good revue.

Yup.  Here is the LaRue...

LaRue Tactical Padded Sling

That one comes with the sewn in QD swivels and the quick-release extension.  (The swivels are sewn in, so if you're looking for QD swivels as an attachment fore and aft, then you're set).

I also have one direct from Viking Tactics...

VTAC Wide Sling

That one is just the sling, no mounting hardware.

As mentioned previously, the webbing on both feels and looks to be made of slightly different stuff but I don't know if one is better than the other.  I'm sure someone else more experienced with different types of nylon and webbing might know better.  They both work fine for me though ;)

I prefer the LaRue because I actually like the extension piece and having the swivels sewn in...not to mention...LaRue always sends me extra goodies when I order.  The wife has become a Dillo Dust addict ;)

Got 22nd place out of 35 in the optics division. not great, but content for a first time in a tactical event. mostly rifle, a couple pistol uses, learned a lot, and had fun!
