Brand new to all of this so humor me....
I'm buying my parts to put together my first lower and would appreciate any input you guys that have been there and tried that can give.  The RRA winter trigger guard appeals to me since I'll be using it often when snow is flying and my hand circulation kinda sucks so gloves are a must.  Pro's/Con's??
Magpul enhanced trigger guard...what the scoop on em?

Any other favorites?

They are great, but can be a pain in the ass to install. If you're not careful when installing these you can break off the ears that hold it to the gun.Just make sure you brace those ears. Also be sure to get the aluminum version not the polymer one.Hope this helps and welcome to the board.

I have 2 of the RRA Winter Trigger Guards.  They have the largest finger area (for thickest gloves) of any trigger guard I found when doing my research.  No need to drop it down for extra clearance.

Personally I'm a big fan of the polymer Magpul trigger guards.  They are CHEAP and offer greater clearance in the trigger guard as well as eliminating the annoying gap between the trigger guard and grip.  Forget what everyone says about ease of installation.  Just support the "ears" and hammer (gently) the roll pin in.  No problems.

Reticle is right. I would suggest ordering a nylon block to tap the old out and tap the new in.

Something like this: http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=26833/Product/GUNSMITH_TOTALLY_NON_MARRING_NYLON_BENCH_BLOCK (not hotlinked - sorry)

I personally have the Magpul but have seen the RRA ones around. They both serve the users purpose but some find one more aesthetically pleasing over the other.

I like the SLR15 @ $10 each...have these on almost all my rifles.

That looks just like the Rock River Winter guard, except the Sully is polymer.

If you have a standard trigger guard, you can drop half out and let it hang, so it doesn't get in the way.

The real advantage of the winter trigger guard is that it covers up the gap between the trigger guard and grip.

I like the magpul trigger guard.  It doesn't get in the way, and looks nice, and is cheap.

My favorite enhanced trigger guards are the Magpul, I don't shoot them when there's snow, what snow here in the NV desert (it only snowed here about 1" or less, three times maybe in the last 10 years).

But when using my shooting glove my Magpul trigger guard have enough clearance, I've got two aluminum version, one is a rare folding (I don't see them selling it anymore) and one MOE polymer version which I use for my range use only practice carbine.

If you're using heavy gloves then the RRA have definitely more clearance for the glove.

When I installed mine I used a Vise-Grip with lots of tape on the serrations, I prefer this method to avoid pounding on the roll pin which could break the ears of the lower receiver, then I use a synthetic block opposite the roll pin to locate the pin sub flush.

See the tacked thread for detailed step by step instructions in the Build It Yourself forum.

I've never had any problems with the Magpul trigger guard and gloves.

Works just fine.

Its its below 10, I'm not going shooting outside, so unless you are tougher than me, I don't see why the Magpul wouldn't work.

Both the aluminum and polymer Magpul trigger guards are good to go...I doubt that anyone here would break their polymer one so if you think that strength and durability is an issue, rest assured, it is not an issue.  I have the polymer Magpul on my Adams Arms piston uppered AR and the aluminum Magpul on my Bushmaster.

I have run the RRA in the past. It was good, but looks pretty goofy. I now run the Magpul MOE and prefer it vastly. Works just as well, is cheaper and it looks better.

Don't forget about the KAC's trigger guard.  It does require a gapper to fill in the gap.

You could also look into using the stark grip. I personally have no experience with it, and many hate on it because of the looks but it does have an integral winter trigger guard which would eliminate the worry of breaking an ear off due to roll pins. Just a thought.
