i have an M&P 15 with a fixed buttstock (the fake one that never was meant to move, not a real pinned one). is there an option to change it out for a different style fixed buttstock?

There are a variety of options for changing out the buttstock.  It depends on what you are looking for.  I am not familiar with NJ laws, but make darned sure whatever you choose is compliant with that.

What, in particular do you want out of a stock.  That will help others answer.
