I was wondering if any of you have or could recommend a good carry case that is discreet that I could carry into a hotel or something when I travel. I have a collapsible stock with a 16" barrel.Any recommendations?

Put your rifle in two pieces..... and stick it in your regular luggage. I mean...that's what I do. I don't pay money for stuff I can already handle.

"What da problem is?"

My AR has a 20" barrel and an A2 stock. I live in a college town and my school has a big music department, so I got an electric bass guitar case for mine and nobody gives me a second thought. Got it for $25 from amazon. Since your rifle is shorter, a tennis racquet case might work.

edit: spelling and first post nails it. Mine won't fit in any of my other bags.

There is nothing discrete about those cases!

True
Unless any of you have a better solution, it may be a Tennis raquet bag!!!

Racket bag, cheap guitar case (one with no logo so people think it's just some shitty POS guitar from Wal-mart), folding camp chair bag, a Sneaky Bag, break it down and use a back pack or large messenger bag.

I actually have this case http://www.outdoorbunker.com/Homeland_Security_Covert_Gun_Case_p/(lps-pvc-mc).htm

I paid a local tailor to add a small velcro patch field to it. I added  some goofy music patches to it and it looks like a keyboard case. Carried it in around the lobby and to my room at  4 star hotel with no second looks and no issues at all.

That's a good.  Someone might want to talk about your guitar, but who asks about a keyboard?

While the Larue bag and the other black tactical bag are good travel bags.. they're definitely not discrete (as poster several up said).

I got to give some +1's to the tennis bag, tool bag..etc.

Greatest thing about the AR platform (maybe not greatest..but you get the point) is that they can break down in two pulls of a pin.

NO one would ever think a nice rifle would fit in a tool or tennis bag. BUT.. dont get too fancy a tool or tennis bag. People have broken into cars for less.

I think the best thing to use is some very plain, no frills bag or case. The beat-up guitar case sounds great..oooh.. go for a beat-up violin case.

I personally use an older tennis bag. Walking out of the house while carrying a big gun case or a tactical drag-bag type thing is just too much.

I think it lets people know exactly what you keep in the house...etc.

Good luck and post back what you ended up using.

If you get a normal case but you don't want your equipment rattling around, here's what I did.  I got the idea from a guy with a guitar case and a M1 garand....since the top of my case was deep enough, I used it to hold my lower to give me more room.  I also laid a padded packing sheet across the upper and mags to prevent my lower from getting scratched.

I still want to do it with a guitar case...

LWRC makes a guitar gun case.  It is badass.

I'm thinking a tennis racquet bag/case for my Mk18 clone, preferably one with an outside pocket to hold a suppressor.

Good man!!

Mine is a 10.5" with Smith Vortex G5 mount...may be a touch snug, but it should fit.

It's a tiny bit snug with my 10.5" with the AAC QD Blackout on one end and the Magpul ACS on the other, but no big issue, fits like a glove.  My only gripe is there's not too much padding, but then again it's a $15 single racket bag.

I wouldn't want anything with mag pockets.  I have this Maxpedition, which is cheap in comparison to some things out there, and I love it; it's of extremely high quality:

http://www.maxpedition.com/store/pc/SLIVER-II-Gun-Case-38-long-13p90.htm

I got it in black, but I bet it would be cool in the Khaki color.  Seriously consider this bag; I couldn't be happier with it.

The Larue case is working great for me.  Mine is blue.  It goes were I do.  I need a velcro patch that says DELL.  It will look like a huge lap top case.

Any of the "discrete" gun cases still look like gun cases. If you really want discrete head over to the music store and get a case for an electric guitar, keyboard, etc...
