I want a good bipod for a DMR/SPR type rifle. The rifle is a 20" with free float rail. What type of bipods do the kool kids use? Is it all Harris all the time, or are there other good choices? I want to mount it directly to the rail.

Harris is pretty much the defacto standard for bipods...I'd get a 6-9" model, and I get to say Im in here before the swivel fan boys

I don't think you can go wrong with a Harris. I've got two 6-9" S-BRM bipods on an AR and a Remington 700. Great bipods.

I have a GG&G tactical bipod. It is really lightweight and strong. The military is using them right now. $180.00 but damn near bullet proof. Check them out before you buy.

I put a Grip Pod on my rifle. It's a little long but it works really well. Easy to remove when not needed too. All over Ebay for $50, cheaper and lighter than the Harris products and dual function to boot. Gotta be careful on Ebay, lots of cheap imitations there as well.

I went with a Harris and a Larue mount and very happy with my choice.

Good thread, I am wondering the same. I see the Harris name on here all the time. I saw the Tango Down on a rifle in Tactical Weapons magazine and it looked really cool with less moving parts. How are they?

Same here. Solid like a rock, no sproingy springs to get caught in shit and super high quality.

Expensive as hell, and a bit heavier than a Harris w/rail mount.

My first choice would be a grip pod for most applications these will do a good enough job. I like that they double as a VFG and get outta the way.

A non swivel harris is good choice for more static position shooting and bench or prone.  The are heavier and a lot more comploicated to deploy.

I like the GG&G the best,  but it is pricey.   It's hard to go wrong with a Harris S-BRM for $99 if on a budget.

Another alternate would be the Demon Tactical ultra light bipod...  The current model doesn't have adjustable legs but they can be trimmed to length if needed.  Plus they are 1/3 the weight of a harris and are out of the way when your not using them.

Kinda apples and oranges as they are both designed towards different things but its something to check out!

I use some rail mounted UTG bipod It has worked better then I expected though. I'v also used the left "leg" as a grip before. Not very tactical, but I really don't have the money to drop on a more expensive bipod.

I went with a Harris 6-9" BRM-S (swivel with notched legs).  I also got a Larue mount and Podloc (the Real One).

The GG&G is also worth a look at.
