I have a Smith Optics Ready model, with the QD sling hole on the underside of the gas block.  Is there a way to mount a bi pod here in this location?  I'd rather not use rail space, unless I have to of course.

Thanks!

If you are shooting off a bipod, I assume you indtend to shoot for accuracy/precision.

If so, the best possible place for your bipod (and a front sling) would be a FF forearm/rail. (is your bbl FF?)
Why would you want to rest the barrel, of all things, on something while shooting? This could shift your POI.

It's your rifle and your choice... but personally, I would avoid resting the barrel (or gas block) on a bipod unless I absolutely HAD to.
Just something to keep in mind.

Also, I've seen some bipods that mount to the bayonet lug... not sure who makes them.
There are a whole bunch of makers who make ones that attach directly to the barrel... but they're all pretty cheap quality.

Thanks for the information.  No, my barrel isn't free floated.  Someday I'll add a rail on the bottom of my hand guards and go that route.
