I am almost embarrased to ask this and expect some flack, but I need to ask for help in finding a couple of slings for two different rifles. I have a RRA CAR A4 with 6 Pos stock. There appears to be a sling mount under the A2 front sight and again at the bottom of the stock - the stock has slits for a sling I believe. I also have a LMT Defender 2000 that has the SOPMOD Stock with slits and same sling mount under the Front sight.
I am looking for ( I think ) a 2 point sling for both rifles. These two rifles are for Hunting varmint primarily. I have not comepted in any competetion nor is that on my current radar, so I am thinking I simply need something to shlep these rifles around while hunting. Stalk hunting pigs, coyotes and the like. Now I am not sure where to look, or what to get - there are MANY out here. I just was on Redi-Mag's website for example (Not the VTAG or Magpul or Victory slings, but not their costs either) Any thoughts on these for my purpose? Next question and the most embarrasing part is.... How the HELL do they attach? Do I need a different mount (side mount or recevier mount) can I not use a 2 point sling on the mounts that came with the rifles? Basically asking what the cheapest route and how do I know if I need a different mount? Some of the mounts cost more than the slings themselves! ANY HELP is mucho appreciated! |

For the lowest cost slings just get a regular AR-15/ M-16 silent slings which are just a one piece webbing, 1 1/4 inch wide, usually comes in black nylon material with two metal black finished buckles.
You could use this silent sling two ways either carrying your carbines vertically or horizontally. If you want to carry it vertically just use your metal sling loops on your AR. If you want it horizontally you will need a side sling swivel that are attached on the barrel under and in the middle of the front sight base, for the rear of the sling mount it on the slot of the buttstock and wrap it around the top of the stock, see the video link for instructions (just ignore that it is an quick adjustable combat sling, mounting the slings are the same). Don't want to buy a side sling swivel, just use paracord to mount on your front sight base. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMgJJcQuqtE You could get AR silent slings at most military surplus stores or check out my links if you want to order it online. Blue Force Gear 2 Point Silent Sling - DSG ARMS site link Eagle Industries 2 Point Silent Sling - link Another alternative are the Isareli army slings which are wider about 2" wide webbing and are attached to the AR's front site base and slot in the buttstock with paracords. I'm a retired LEO , my "tactical" days are probably over. I'm in the same boat as the OP....simply looking for a high quality , yet reasonably priced sling set up that will allow me to carry and steady my LWRC in the field.
AR3.... Thanks for a GREAT post. The You Tube videos were very informative. I think I'm going to look at a few other options........ but the 2 point unpadded sling from Vickers looks like it will fill my needs nicely. FN in MT |

I own 2 of the Boonie Packer (Redi-mag) 2P-TQA slings. I like them so much I just ordered a third! The first one I bought has the Silent front mount that is made of Kevlar. I went this route so that I didn't have to buy a front sling mount for $20-$30. It attaches the sling through/over the FSB.
front sling mount The second 2P-TQA I purchased I got the extra quick release set up. This carbine has a free float rail that I mounted a side sling mount on. Emergency quick release The 3rd 2P-TQA I just ordered is a duplicate of the second. On this carbine I used a colt side sling mount. on the front sight. For the amount of money I spent on these quality slings I am more then satisfied and can not say enough good things about the quality, customer service and the price( not to mention free shipping too) You can not go wrong with Redi-mags Boonie packer slings. |

If you're carrying them around all day, you may look into a padded sling. Most will come with instructions. +1 I love Troy's two points for this reason, it's like the Cadillac... no wait, the Peterbuilt of padded slings. I don't have the newer version with the bungee deal but it should work just the same. http://www.troyind.com/TwoPoint.html Some companies, like Optics Planet still have the older versions in stock if you are interested. |
