Facts:
I have completed my first AR and am down to the sling selection. The single point looks attractive and usefull.
I live in a small town with a VERY STONG military presence. (Camp Grayling). At any given time we have live bombing, Navy Seals, National Guard, Army, live M-1 tank fire and all between as traing dictates.
This would be a very unlikely place for bad guys to play for these reasons and the fact that we are a long way from anything else of interest.
You get the picture.
Questions:
I would see short time/short distances for any carry need. However needing the hans free for hauling water, food, ......
I know there is a strong mwtter of preference here but thoughts/pros cons/alternatives welcome from experience in the field and not just what is "tacticool"
Thanks

Magpuls sling gives you the opprotunity to switch between single point and 2 point if you have the attachments for both...I would go that route if you want to be able to do both.

Check out the Summit sling from Rocky Mountain Tactical.  It allows you to switch from 2-pt to 1-pt.  You'll need some type of mount near your castle nut though.  I use a Midwest slip-on rather than a different plate.

I use a Troy single point currently but think a 1pt/2pt like the previous 2 posters mentioned would work a lot better. Actually my std GI 2 pt sling on my 14.5" LMT works damn well and would likely be my go to.

I have a Vickers sling on my SHTF rig. I am happy with the quality and the comfort. I tried a single point but it just wasnt comfortable for me.

Single points are awkward for me because the weapon just flops around unless hands-on. I Have the Vickers Combat applications sling on 2 ARs, and I love  'em. Very fast to adjust. Stable shooting off-hand when cinched up.

I used to like the Vickers Combat Aplication Sling but the cinch it tight and forget it feature is nice on the Viking Tactics sling. The vickers will slip if you run for any distance and you are not able to get it nearly as close to your body. The cinch feature is nice if you have to carry stuff or kneel for nonshooting stuff (first aid, picking something up to carry it, etc.)

ETA If you are looking for a fast to adjust forward moving combat sling, vickers is probably right for you. If you want a sling to keep your gun secure while you do something else, try Viking tactics sling. Don't get me wrong, both are fast to adjust, but vickers is faster at the expense of some controllability doing other tasks.

Magpul carries their slings both before and after the MS2...
Nuff said.

At the very least, if you get a 2pt, get something with a quick-adjust like the Summit or Vickers.  The QA is very helpful when you need to switch shoulders.

Magpul MS2 can go from 1 to 2 point sling in seconds.

I basically use three brands of slings all with heavy duty push button QD swivels so I could quickly change them.

On my heavy carbine mainly for shooting I prefer my padded Vickers two point sling because I could adjust it quickly during transitions back and forth from the strong side to the support side shoulders.

If I'm going to need my hands free for chores, walking, running, climbing, etc., I use my Viking Tactics - LaRue padded two point sling because I could adjust it very snug and tight to my body.

With my lightweight home defense M4 type carbine I chose Gear Sector GS-2P two point sling, it could be converted to a single point sling if you get the proper adapters, it have a modular design.

Thanks guys,
1pt/2pt sounds like a hands down and gives all that I was looking for. I'm sold. I am all about practical and as stated, I have the real pros in my backyard and the bad guys would be looking for their 72 virgins by the time they got to me. LOL. I would most likely be looking for twinkies and milk.

I agree.  Having the weapon banging against my knees while performing "other" task is not real appealing with using a single point sling.  I truely love a quality 2 pt. sling.
