Hey all,
Just received my LMT defender last night. Got home today and sawed off my delta ring to install my Midwest Industries free floating handguards. I have one item left. I know it is kinda lame, but I bought a Spike's Tactical fake can to use with my CMMG .22 conversion kit. My question is...If I remove my factory birdcage hider will I have to buy and install a new crush washer every time I want to put it back on? I was under the impression that I could switch back and forth freely until I saw a thread somewhere last night. I appreciate the guidance...

as cheap as crush washers are, i would because if the fh has been torqued to the max like most manufacturers do then it wont index properly. or you could just buy a peel washer and use it over and over.

cursh washer acts like a split washer (a 1 coil spring) that creates some tension so you can time the device properly (ie:stop tightening as soon as you get the proper alignment).  This is helpful if you have a flash hider that needs to hace the slots oriented at a certain position.  But if you have a can, just screw it down snug since there is nothing to align anyway.

Yeah, I get the concept of the crush washer and am familiar with the procedures with installing the can. I was just curious as to what people do when they switch back and forth between the two. I don't find it cost effective to use a new crush washer every time I want to put my birdcage back on. I am beginning to think this is the only course of action...
