Hey guys, I've been lurking for awhile, and have a couple questions if you don't mind sharing your wisdom...

I'm patiently awaiting my ar kit from Del-Ton, and want to get some things ready while I wait.  All I want to do to the gun is add a light, with the standard hand guards.  I wanted to add the light directly under the barrel using this...

However I see that it will interfere with my sling.  I don't want a single point or three point sling, just something simple.  I've seen side mount sling attachments... what's the benefit and do I need an adapter for the rear as well, or can I get by without it?

My other option is to get a small piece of rail and attach it to the side of my forearm, then use this to mount my light

I can then use the standard sling and not have to worry about changing up the sling.

Which method do you prefer, and why?  I'm open to both ideas, I'm just curious as to what everyone else thinks is better and why.  Any info. you guys can provide will be great!  Pics. help too if you have a light/sling setup...

Question..Why not a flashlight mount that attaches to the front sight post, either on the side like the GG&G or on the bottom like the elzetta mounts? or say one that mounts to the bayo lug?

In short, i'd say stick with the sling that you want in the config that you want and move the light accordingly. In the end, it would be more annoying to have the light sticking into odd points of your back than just moving your hand a couple inches more (IMO)

I don't like having the light hanging off the front sight, it just looks awkward to me (I know, horrible reason)... I do like this, and then hanging the light underneath, it also solves the sling issue...

Does anyone have any reason why that would be a bad setup as opposed to having the light on the right side, or fsb?

i would get a smaller pictanny rail for the bayo lug and then attach the sling to the regular sling mount. Not that it would cause any damage, i just wouldn't want the sling pulling on the FSP (IMO)

Buy a forearm rail. That would solve all your problem.

1. Buy a rail and appropriate accessories.

2. other option, a UWL from either Viking Tactics or Blue Force Gear (can't remember which) will give you lefty/righty option on the sling up front.

If you have a collapsible stock you'll be fine, if you have a fixed, you need an adapter like Eagle makes.

So I've settled on the Cletus mount http://www.crosstac.com/AR-15-Accessories/Cletus-Front-Sight-Picatinny-Rail.html

... looks like it'll take care of both my issues... anyone on here have one and how do you like it?  (the search function only goes back 30 days.. sorry if it's been covered)
