I am looking for a way to mount a vertical grip on my M4.  I need to use the factory Colt handguards since the quad rail handguards are too thick to fit in the overhead weapon rack.  Any ideas?

You can bolt a section of rail to your existing handguards.  Then attach the VFG to the rail.

Heres an example of the rail:

The bolt-on rails is what you're looking for.  I have a short rail made by Falcon with enough rail space for my TD VFG.  It was only like $12 from Brownells.   Installation is quick and all ya gotta do is remove the lower handguard and simply tighten the 2 bolts.

ETA:  the ones from Brownells are made by Falcon Industries and are called the Universal Mounting Platform.  comes in 2", 4" and 6" rail sections.
