So I am in the market to add a sling to my newly completed AR-15. After the sling I am literally done. Until I add optics and have to buy extra Pmags and ammo and...
Well I am just focusing on the sling right now and I have a couple questions about them. So my AR has a BCM upper with the sling swivel loop thing on the bottom of the barrel near the front site post. I also have a Magpul CTR stock with no sling mount. I want a 2 point sling because I've heard the only good thing a one point sling does is hit you in the balls and I try to avoid that as much as possible. I also love my money and parted with too much on this gun already to spend a lot on a sling. So I am willing to go the one point sling way if I can get one cheaper. So what are my options with my current sling mounts? Will a One point sling even work without a mount on the back plate? Whats a good yet cheap sling? I am sure this has been covered a billion trillion cazillion times but the damn search function is making me wait too long to search stuff. |
| The CTR has several sling mounts, the two slots on the rear and bottom of the stock are made for a sling to loop through and the hole behind the adjustment lever is made to accept QD sling mounts. There are also numerous mounts made to replace the receiver endplate if you choose to go that route. |

i have the CTR also. i am using a gear sector 2 point. on one end, i connect the sling to the verticle slot in the stock. on the other end, i use a sling swivel that clamps on to my rail. simple and it works. if you dont have a rail, you can put it on the front sling swivel that is already on your gun. it does work, just doesnt look as good. you can get the gear sector for $40, and IMO it is the best thing out there. customer service is great too.
i will see if i can get some pics soon. |

As stated, the CTR has several sling points.
The single point slings will hit you in the nuts if you use them outside of their intended design. They are meant for CQB and vehicle use, and to have a hand on them at pretty much all times. If you are using one and running around with it unsecured or without rotating it out of the way, it will hit you. Adjustable two points are about the best sling you can run. I would recommend the Gear Sector GS-2P. The VCAS is another very good two point. For the front mount, you can use the standard sling swivel. I believe this adapter will let you side mount the sling up front over standard handguards. If you have rails, get one like this. For the rear, you might want to mount the sling closer to the receiver. If so, look at these. If you want to use a mount that doesn't replace the plate, use one of these. The CTR has several sling points, but they may put the sling points too far apart to use the sling well, depending on which one you use and how much adjustment you need. |
