Alright well I received my magpul trigger guard, I went to take off the factory one but I couldnt get the damn roll pin out!!!  I pounded on it and pounded but it wouldnt budge more than a mm. I didnt want to hit it too hard  because I didnt want to break off the ears but I was still hitting fairly hard.  Any tricks to get this bad boy out?  And before anyone says anything, I DID do a search and it didnt bring anything up.

Thanks

Matt

Well I was using a punch but maybe I wasnt hitting it hard enough.  Although I felt I was hitting it hard I was still being ginger without so I wouldnt break the ears.

you really shouldn't be having that much trouble with it.  Spray some CLP or some kind of lube in the hole, give it a couple minutes and try it again.  I would keep hitting it as hard as neccisary, you really shouldn't be able to mess it up that bad.  It's really strange that its in there that tight.  Like I said I woul;d keep at it until its out and get a new roll pin if you have too.  other then some clp I can't think of anything else to do.

let us know how you make out

Breaking the ears off is not an unwarranted concern.

I like to use a piece of soft wood (pine/other) under the bottom ear to support it. I drill a 1/4" hole in the wood to allow room for the roll pin to escape. It can sometimes take a pretty good rap to get it moving.

I don't use a punch to reinstall the pin (except the last little bit). I like to use the "vise grip method" to insert and seat the roll pin, then finish it with a punch. The pressure exerted is much more controllable that way.

Good luck Sir!

Flint.

Thanks for the advice guys, I will have to take a swing at it, literally, this weekend when I have more time.

I use a block of pine to support mine when I work on them as well.

Well I got it out and put in the Magpul.  I guess I just had to stop being a lil girl and hit the damn thing.  I guess I was just too scared to break the ears off. Thanks again.  It looks great and feels great.

I've only done it twice, and both times I was surprised at the force required.  I didn't want to be a little girl either, but damn, I'd feel like an ass if I snapped an ear off.

Glad you finally got the pin out.  I finally learned to hit it with some CLP and let it sit.

good for you!

nothing worse than letting a gun butcher do for you to the tune of $50.00 what you can do for yourself.  ready to tackle a complete build?
