I know there are a few posts on these VFG's but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for.  I debating on which VFG to get and am leaning towards the Bobro.  I found that the Bobro Shorty is 3 3/16" but can't find out what the length of the TD Stubby.  Can someone tell me the length of the TD Stubby.  If anyone has a side by side pic of the two that'd be great.  thanks

You may want to standby. TD has a VFG coming in regular and shorty versions with a QD latch like Bobro.

+1

The newly designed vertical grip by TangoDown with American Defense feature the quick release lever mount.

This model is intended for users that need to remove their grip quickly for other accessories, for out of spec Picatinny rails, and for those that require rock solid mounting of their VFG.

This thread have more info and pics about the TD QR VFG, it should be out in less than two months from now.

I love my Bobros...the TDs were a pain in the ass to get on , and off..without using zip ties, or other creative methods...the Bobro "feels" more substantial...put the two next to one another, and anyone could tell you which one was the higher quality...even non-gun people...it is almost like a high quality camera accessory, but I would trust my life on it!
The Bobro never gets loose, it is more sensitive to temperature though...my 2 cents...

No need for zip-ties or the special tools with the TD grip, you can use the roll-pins that people have been recommending for tightening the fit on a railed handguard.  4 of them will hold the locking bars down so you can slide it on the rail.

I installed the stubby TD grip on one of my precision setups today.  I like the way it feels in my hand.  I also installed it further out on the rail than on the carbines.  Just playing around with it the increased leverage helps to make the added weight out front less noticeable, got to love torque.

My thought was the stubby grip won't interfere with using a bipod or benchrest shooting.  I hope to find out soon.

I think what endlessummer was trying to get accross, is that the TD required mods to fit tightly.  Doesnt matter if it is roll pins or zipties.  Bobro does not require any mods.

I think I'm going to go with the Bobro.  My only concern is how hot does it really get?  After how many continuous rounds will I really start to notice it heating up?  Am I going to have to use gloves after 5, 10, 100 rounds??

I'm aware of that, I only addressed the installation issue.  I've had pretty good luck with them serving as a permanent installation on most rails I've installed them on.  It does seem that there are lots that have the wobble issue, or the tight fitting issue.

not sure why this hasn't come up yet but am I the only one that knows about the defects of Bobro VFGs?

This is a known issue as I have heard it from others as well. The Bobro VFG's plastic shaft has notches at the top of it that make it so it won't spin when seated up into the aluminum base. These notches break off or bend easily and cause the plastic shaft to spin inside of the aluminum base.
I emailed BOBRO and have called the shop many times to get no response from them.
I still have mine mounted as it will still work but It will be replaced by the new TD or one of Hogue's new VFG lineup

Negative. I identified the problem and was the first to report the problem directly to Andrew.

A known issue that affects a select very few individuals as it was isolated to only the first run of product. And even in that first run, the problem didn't affect every unit produced.

Incorrect. They had an indexing plate that used an industrial epoxy to prevent rotation. In a select few cases, if the epoxy failed, the body could ( not would ) spin freely. This has been corrected with a triple mechanical indexing system since the problem was identified. He is a direct quote from the man himself:

"Jason, we just tested the new triple mechanical index system. Without any adhesive whatsoever the grip would not rotate, we clamped the grip portion with a modified crowfoot and a 1/2 inch torque wrench. We had to crush the grip oval to grab it tight enough, and at 110 FOOT (not inch!) pounds the grip would not rotate, we maxed the wrench and no rotation. Thought that might interest you. Andrew B."

I can't comment on your inability to reach Bobro. However, I have had nothing but consistent results both via email and voice communications. Prompt service and responses on every occasion. Have you left a voice mail asking for a return call?

I love the Bobro.  The only thing I think should be improved on it is the transition from grip to mount.  It is abrupt and can really irritate your thumb and index finger knuckle.  If it was contoured a little more, or something could be mounted there to make it more comfortable, it would be perfect.

Right... It was you who I spoke to on the phone JTrusty and you told me about the problems Bobro was having when I first posted this response in a different thread. You also said Bobro would take care of me and you knew the guy. I had left 2 messages on his voicemail and 2 email messages within a week. No response, so I figured that this wasn't going to be fixed. especially when I never heard back from them at all; seemed to me they were running fast in the other direction.
I'm still sitting on this broken Bobro since last time we talked about this; what's your imput on that? I suppose it was my fault that Bobro won't return my calls or emails?
