Is there a certain way to determine the best place to mount a VFG? I keep moving mine up and down the rail and all the positions feel about the same to me.

Just wondering if there is a certain posture I'm supposed to be shooting for, or if it doesn't matter.

I personally find that if it's in the rear half of the rail I can have the back of my arm (triceps area) against my side. I find it gives me more stability. However, some folks I know like it further out. YMMV.

I am the same way, but it all depends on you. Some folks like the control of having it way out front, I like the support of having it in close.

A common theory, is mount the VFG as far forward as you can comfortably shoot in a "Tactical" stance (feet shoulder width, weak foot slightly ahead of strong foot, read nearly square). This mount will give you the most mechanical advantage with respect to holding your muzzle still as well as swinging it around.

I like it in the rear.

Uh, I mean...I like the VFG mounted at the rearmost portion of the rail...

Others like it elsewhere.

Try doing mag changes and transitioning from prone to standing (and back) and opening doors and such, see what works best for you. If you just stand there and shoot, it doesn't really matter.

I like having mine too the rear also so I can rest my left elbow on my body for extra stability when you need. But not so far back you where get into the magazine with your forearm  when you swing the rifle.

+1.

In theory, you want to mimic a stable fighting stance - one of the reasons behind pistol grips and VFGs to begin with.  Most people don't hold their arm/hand fully extended in the ready (or bladed) position.  With the VFG closer in, it tends to be more stable and less fatiguing.
