How do you plan to acquire your target with that big red cube in your sight picture?

On a serious note, the closest I have seen is the collaborative project between Vltor & Tango Down. Here is a direct link to the new products section: link

That is a giant leap in the right direction. THANKS!
Still, some p-dogs will have to be taken from uneven ground; all of the canines will be taken from uneven ground for sure.
I was only thinking that a pivot point above the center of the barrel would give a very stable shot... I'm thinking some more research needs to be done and I will have to make a few trips to the machine shop for a new project .
In any case, if traditional pods work for everybody else, they can work for me.

Thanks JTrusty

interesting idea but like what was said earlier youd have to figure a way to aim but otherwise a good idea

Most of me thinks this topic is over, but a small part wants to actually go further with this idea... and I have; this is going to be a semester project for me, I think.

Below are pictures of the concept (... it's a very crude setup, I know): The rifle stays vertical in any slant surface. That is the feature I am going for. If the rifle self levels then there would be less input needed from the operator.

Below is a simple sketch of a prelim. design idea. Basically it is a ball-and-socket design. The ball is 3/8" diameter. The plate around the ball is 1/4" thick and 2" long. This gives it enough clearance for nearly 18 degrees of tilt. I would attach/manufacture the legs to be like those of the CAA side mount design <http://www.commandarms.com/product.asp?pID=217&cID=20>. If you have input of any kind I would like to hear it.

initial reaction is a ball without any fore-aft support is just going to let the rifle flop forward or backward almost immediately.

I have thought about making the ball into a disc or keep the ball and use bumpers, stops, etc.

Thanks.

It is totally possible and has been done

You might look closely at the old M-14 bipod as it might get you close with little modification

Damn, we were talking about that type of bipod at the range today, then later on, someone came in one with.

Some company is making one, its discontinued, but they are working on a newer model.
