I'm looking for some options for a carry case that doesn't scream "gun". The Blackhawk case looks like its going to be my best option, but I am looking for any others. I don't really want to drop $100 just for a case, so I wouldn't mind turning a gym bag into one as well. The only thing it needs to hold is a 16" M4gery with an Aimpoint mounted.

Any help?

A guitar case works well.

Second vote for a guitar case.  There are also instructions floating around for converting a standard size tool box into a carrying case--haven't done that, but it looks like it would work well.

I thought about a guitar case, but most of the soft cases are a bit too long. Also, there are many people that would steal a guitar in a second. Thats my only reservations about using a guitar case, but push may come to shove.

I've seen guys use metal too boxes. You just have to break down the upper from the lower.

People will steal anything, tool box, guitar case, funny large square bag.  A discrete case IS NOT about theft prevention, it's about not screaming 'GUN' when you are carrying the case.

26" tool boxes work well with AR carbines broken down into upper/lower receivers.

There are a couple of tennis racket cases that work well for carbines with telestocks and 14.5"+FH barrels:

Of course as previously noted Guitar cases work well - especially if you have a Recce or SPR type.  Just be careful if the scope is too big you'll have to remove it prior to stowing it in the bag.

I've also got the Blackhawk case.  It is a FANTASTIC case, I can carry that Recce with a Leupy 3x9 scope AND all it's support gear (magazines, bipod, spare optic, light, sling etc) and still have some room left over.  It even can double as a shooting mat.  However, IMHO it still screams 'gun' or at the least 'unusual item' unless you could get some patches of synthesizer manufacturers put on.  Say a nice large "Moog" logo patch.

You should not EVER leave a weapon where this is an option for someone.

I hate to tell you this, but crackheads will steal ANYTHING.

Just about any rectangular (not gun outline) will work. Slap some Music Band, Skater, Snowboard, Etc. Patches on it and it will confuse the sheeple enought that you could ride a city bus with it.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I went ahead, and ordered a Tac-Force T.T.S 36" since it was a fairly good price (plus an EE dealer had them). I'll see if this works out for me, and may even post a review of it. I know not to leave a discreet case out in the open, I just wanted to put the "gun" thought out of someone's head. I may even sew a hippie flower, smiley face, and peace sign patches on it.

Thanks for the help

I got inspired and looked for my Head tennis bag - nice and long but my 16 inched carbine with retracted stock didn't make it in.  I need to get a Dunlop bag!  Thanks for the idea.

Note a 16" with FH would not fit in the Dunlop case either.  It just sqeezes in with a 14.5+Vortex.  If your 16" has a bare muzzle it would fit.

I just picked up this bat bag today for around $25. My Colt is about 32" and the bag is approx. 36". I have to take out the mag because the bag is not wide enough. One mag will go in the exterior pocket.

Damn, I posted after reading about your 14.5 barrel.  I have to look for other alternatives.

Where did you get it from, I'm interested in probably picking one of these up.

And yet again my favorite regular carry bag passes another test. Guitar cases may get stolen, but how often do you hear of people stealing golf clubs?

Has numerous pockets, holds plenty of weight, sturdy shoulder strap, rain resistant. Holds up to two full sized scoped rifles.

And you can find them at every garage sale or craigs list for cheap. Whats not to like.

You won't be disapointed.  I have the same case and added plastic to make it semi rigid for a little more protection like the  i-shot.  Works very well.

CavVet,

How about some more detailed pics of your bag?  I'd like to see how the main compartment is setup and how the rifles fit in it.
