I'm building my son his first AR. I just purchased the upper, it is a J&T 20" bull barrel, flat top receiver with an aluminum free float hand guard. I will have to put a bi pod on it. My question is: should I install a sling mount or a picatinny type rail on the bottom? Both have advantages, but I want an opinion from others. Thanks ahead of time.

I hunt varmints with my AR so I dont like rails underneath, too bulky.  I have the swivel stud and if I want to drop the pod ... 5 secs and its off.

Install the sling stud, and use a Harris bi-pod.

Yeah, this.

If you add a second sling stud you cn sling it with the bipod on it.  Have the bipod on before choosing the spot for the second stud.  Mine came with two, but the bipod coveres the second one
