Now I am KISS, kinda of old soldier dinasour kind of guy. I have been using M-16,     M-203, AR-15 and M-4's for over 25 years. I like simple, easy, no fuss operational stuff. Both of my AR's do not have optics. Now I believe that there is a place for optics, but rather not have them on my AR. I do have  ergo grips, and simple lights that are mounted from the front sight posts. Simple one point slings. You kinda see where I sit? Old Dog.

I was at a get together and where there were alot of vendors. I piicked up a few things, but when I got to the DGG Taser both, I about lost my mind. I was thinking of buying a rail system for one AR. But I just couldn't find a real reason to other that the "I want bug" to purchase it. I could mount a different grip to the rail and change the light. But that means that it would weigh a little more. Not much, but over time of standing it could weigh on you. I have other friends who have rail systems and while each has their place, when we go prone, I find myself getting into position and getting off at least two rounds by the time they get ready their first one down range.

Now I already pobably know the answer, but sometimes it helps me to talk to others about something like this. All of the other guys say , get the rails, get the optics get this get that. Get with the times man. But I was never one to "keep up with the Jones's"  So what do you guys think I believe that it is mostly personal preference and useablity that works best. Input,, suggestions?

I beleive every rifle should have some kind of EOtech Aimpoit with a buis and standard A2 sight post, there is no question about it that electro optics are much faster at getting on target than irons, but need the buis in case the optic takes a dump. Also i think that a good weapon light is a must it is simple concept if you can't see what you are shooting at then you should not be shooting it. also good mags, and a good sling are a must, Not a 3 point though, you have to have phd. in Phyisics to use one.
Im sure you already know most of this and probably know more than i do but thease are just my oppnions for a all buisness fighting weapon

My M4 is set up like yours except I have an aimpoint.  I could take it or leave it when it comes to optics on a carbine.  My .mil M4 had rails, PEQ-2A, rail mounted light and an ACOG.  All that shit turned a handy lightweight weapon into what felt like an M14 without the punch.

I just ordered a rail system for mine but I won't hanging all that other crap on it.  Rails and VFG don't add much weight for me to notice.

I think my next one is going to be even more basic.  11.5" barrel and A1 sights, barrel mounted light and thats it.  Who the hell needs A2 target sights on a battle rifle or home defense anyway.  My home doesn't have 300+ meter hallways so I should be just fine.
