I am wanting to get a new sling for my Bushmaster M4. I think that i want a 1-point. I was looking at the Troy 1-point sling but am open to suggestions. What setups are the AR15.com community using?

I use a standard issue black nylon carry strap. I have used single points but when transitioning weapons I always get dinged in the nuts by the rifle, and I have tried 3 point slings and they have just too much strap that gets in the way. I like a simple sling setup as if I need to transition to a pistol or carry something I can just swing the rifle out of my way. And it does not have extra straps to hang on shit or buckles to come un-buckled or anything that is not needed to retain the rifle to my body.

A good sling, but I recommend a 2 point sling.  I like the Vickers Blue Force...

If you don't mind me asking, why do you want a single point?  I have a blue force gear vickers 2 point and I will probably never buy another sling again.

Whatever you do don't get a wolf hook.  Those things don't hold their position right.  I had to tie a knot in the webbing to get it to stay cinched.  Going to ditch this one as soon as I get back from the field.

I like to carry my AR in front of me muzzle down

I also recommend Blue Force Gear.  They have a wide variety of slings, including several single points.

I've tested every type of sling out there and by far my favorite is the Vikings Wide V-Tac.  The Vickers is also great, but I prefer the Vikings.  And you can also carry your AR with the muzzle down.

The Vickers/BFG will allow you to do that, so will the Viking tactical.

It will also allow you to transition and move at the same time without having taking a rifle to the groin. That is a trick I could accomplish only about 1/3 of the time using a single point.

Single point slings are a niche item, a good two point is the better option for a general use rifle.

right, like he was saying. The Vickers 2 point in front of you muzzle down. The slider is the best thing in sling design since teh sliced bread and stuff.

Wife has a 3-point. I have a leather two point H&K used $3.00. I like mine better.

I had the BFG UDC Single point...  for about a month!  Dont get me wrong, great 1 point.  Dont think there is a better 1 point.  But then I bought a Vickers...  No more singles for me!  I keep the 1 point in the range box for backup since I left my hook loop on my ar, but otherwise...  its gathering dust.

+1 Viking Tactics-LaRue and Blue Force Gear Vickers slings

I use both and they're great.

Is there a difference between the Viking Tactics/LaRue and the Viking tactics? I see LaRue has the sling for $69.00 and other sites list the viking padded for $41.00

The Larue Version has built in QD Sling Swivels and it is a little shorter.

+1 What he said.

I'm using the Viking Tactics-LaRue sling on my 16" midlength carbine with LaRue 9.0 rails, DD swivel rail mount and Vltor EMOD and the sling's length is perfect for it.

The Troy sucks in my opinion. Seems like I write this a least once a week here. One of the best single point slings out  right now is the Gear Sector ASP. Very comfortable and very functional. The Troy might have a nice big padded shoulder strap but all it does is get in the way.

Hopefully Stickman will come along with a better pic.

What is the best way to attach a sling to a tactical rail when you have a QD sling mount on your stock but not on your rail?

Buy something like a MI#08 for the rail to have the QD on both ends? or buy something like a MI#06 and only have the QD on one end?

What's most common for the best method of sling attachment? What's everyone doing?

A lot of guys will run a fixed sling loop on the front end and not a QD at both ends. The reason is so the sling will not twist and tangle. This is why the LaRue rails with the built in QD stud limit the rotation of the sling.

Either way will work, it just depends on what you want the sling to do, or not do.

I'm not a big fan of the Troy sling either, and for that matter, I've found pads to get in the way most of the time for me.  I'll point out that when I'm throwing on a sling, much of the time I'm in a hurry and often running towards a call after I bail out of my cruiser.  Depending on the call, sometimes I'm putting my gear on while inside the car and getting near the scene.  What works for me, may not work for you.

Ironcross,

Here are a few pictures of the GearSector ASP.

This first picture is a ASP version 1.5, which was a prototype.  You can see it runs tubular webbing, which has a smooth feel, and doesn't kink or twist like flat webbing.

The GearSector is available with three different attachment methods depending on how your mounting options are.

The one on the left is for HK style snap hooks, the one on the right is for single point sling mounts, or QD mounts.

The middle mount shown above is a nice attachment for Shotguns, FALs, AKs, or similar weapons.  Here one is on my 11-87P.

Here is a picture of the GearSector Gen II ASP.  You can see the three way point that is the heart of the sling.  This is a large part of what makes it stand out above the others.  In general, I'm not a fan of single point slings.  The ASP is the exception due to the way it rides when I use it with my duty weapons.

Being able to use the same attachment stubs allows me to keep the same sling for my duty carbine, and be able to switch over to "specialty" weapons without taking the sling off.
