I just got my TD vertical grip mounted, I am pretty sure it is mounted correctly and the MI rails are solid, but there is some play from side-to-side in the TD VFG.  is this normal?

Personally mine was so tight on my Yankee Hill quadrail I had to tap it on with a rubber mallet.

Most of the TD foregrips I've had fit looser than I'd like (I've had 8 or 9 of them). I recently switched all my VFGs for Dieters and while they're heavier they're as secure as can be. NO WIGGLES.

It's normal.  It depends on the tolerances of both the rail and the grip so sometimes there will be wiggle depending on the particular grip and/or particular rail.  Nothing to worry about, unless it just bothers you, of course.

TD VFG fits differently on different brands of rails because the tolerances varies.

On my LaRue and KAC rails my TD could be easily mounted and the fit is solid, while on my Samson rails it's a PITA to install but a rubber mallet is not required.

Mines are on KAC RAS and they all have some play.

This is a common problem discussed often. The best solution that I have found is two roll pins in the openings, works great and easy to take out if you need to remove the grip.

Havent I seen some people run zip ties through the holes once they have the VFG where they want them to lock it into place?

The zip ties help but the roll pins solve the problem for good.

I'm using zip ties in all of mine and never would have thought to use roll pins...what size roll pins are those?

Sounds like a great idea...I keep ripping the shit out of my hand on the zip tie...

I am not sure. I just took the grip to the local HW store and found the one that fit. And yes I took it off my AR first.

I have one on a Larue rail and one on a Troy and they are tight as a virgin.  Maybe the MI rails are a little out of spec?

This has been discussed many times in the past. It is a common problem that seems to happen with almost any brand of rail. I would think it is much more likely that the plastic grip is out of spec than the rail.

Tango Down will replace a loose one free of charge but the new one eventually loosened up on my DD rail so I put in the roll pins.

i have several on all kinds of rails. including the plastic rails you can attatch to regular handguards, and on aftermarket uzi handguards with rails. had a couple for years now too.

absolutely no play in them.

Great idea!

And I'm sure the MI rails aren't the issue. Its combining parts from different manufacturers who all decide how close to the spec they can or should be. Some are closer then others.

This is the easiest way to go without changing the grip in anyway.

Center your TD FEG, push the slide bars up as far as possible, and then run a Zip Tie inside the right gap, and around and back through the left gap on the other side and cinch it as tight as you can. Trim and "De-Bur" with a dremel and you're GTG

Works well....until you want to take it off.

The only down side to the tie wraps is that they may interfere with your rail covers.

Hi Tack
I guess I don't get why this is easier than the two roll pins. No Dremel needed, easy to remove and they do not change the grip.

I might not have been clear but the pins do not replace the locking mechanism but just slip into the opening. Try it you will like it!!

Yay! We discovered and debated again that nobody makes rails or the accessories for them to the same spec.

Maybe we can talk Mark LaRue into making a VFG with an adjustable lever mount.

I got some roll pins the other day and have inserted them into the TD grip. The dimensions are 3/16 X 1 1/2". They weren't quite as tight as I would have liked on my LMT MRP rail, but the next size larger (1/4") are too large to fit.

After I get back from having spinal surgery next week, I'm going to test the roll pins for retention.

The wobble is less than the zip ties, but not "As tight as a virgin" either. One major benefit is that the pins would be easier to remove than the zip ties if you didn't have a cutting tool because the point of a 5.56mm bullet makes a good punch. Also, the roll pins can be reused once you take them out for whatever reason alleviating the need to have zip ties in your parts kit...at least for this application.

This is an outstanding idea!

However, I wouldn't want it if it didn;t have the storage compartment that the TD grip does. My extra bolt, cam pin, firing pin retaining pin and a small section of toothbrush fit very nicely inside the TD grip.

I don't see why this couldn't be done. But given that the LaRue QD mounts (I have several) run about $89 for the simplest mount, this grip with the QD mount attached would probably run in the +$100 range.

my TD grip was a bastard to get on my YHM rails.  I had to use the rubber mallet method.

But I dont worry about it ever coming off at least.
