I just purchased a Gear sector ASP sling and SPRE from rainier arms.
i installed it yesterday and wearing it like the illustration shows, the rifle hangs really low to my left side.

is this normal?

Nope.  Sounds like it needs adjustment, but without seeing how you are wering yours, its hard to say.  I wear mine so the sling mount is pretty much center chest, similar to the pictures on the gearsector.com website.

Yup.  That's where my ASP ends up.
Not an issue with the V though.

The product packaging illustrates the final resting point for the weapon when transitioning
to sidearm.

Due to the nature of the tubular nylon webbing, the sling easily rotates around the torso
enabling a controlled drop. The weapon is stowed outboard with the weakarm while the
strongarm draws the sidearm. Assuming you are right handed, the weapon should hang
low and to the left when transitioning to clear a path to your sidearm.

The single point sling was not designed as a carry sling. Its focus is on weapon retention
and high speed transition as well as use in close quarters where manueverability is limited.
An added benefit is the ability to go hands free without sacrificing weapon retention.
