Which 2 point sling setup would you chose for a 16" middy with a LaRue handguard (w/QD attachment) and a Magpul M93B? A 1 or 3 point sling is also a possibility but I'd like to give the QD attachment on the LaRue a try. |

The Blue Force Vickers two point seems to be getting good reveiws, I'm waiting for one myself. check this site And on this site |

That vickers sling looks awesome. I'll probably have to get one sooner or later. For now what I'm using is a Wilderness single point with the quick release buckle that I have converted to use as a two point attached at the rear of the handguards and the front of my magpul stock. |
| Its going to be up to you to decide what you feel is the best positioning. Some people like a single point sling mount, and off the rearmost rail mount, others like them a little farther apart. Without knowing your physical makeup, and what you are doing, there is no way to give you an answer on what is best. |
Stick's right, and he probably has the best advice to give, but here is a little input from me. Before I say anything let me say this, sling preferences are more varied than probably any other item among AR users. Sling setups I love have been despised by other AR users. "It's cutting into my neck!" "I've got a headache already!" "I can't cheek the weapon!" "A transition is impossible with this sling!" "This sling offers me no support at all when shooting!" And my favorite (remember I'm a lefty) "It's on the wrong side of the gun!" Get a sling setup you think you like, the wear the dang thing, and wear it some more. Then try another type, keep trying and you'll get it. I've tried practically every sling option there is, and I always come back to the basic 2 point. I'm a lefty and I have found on occasion that the 3 point slings can and do interfere with the ejection port, as well as being a complicated mess to use, at least for me. As far as the QD swivel point being next to the upper receiver, it's great on a 10.5" AR, but I have tried it on 14.5-16" ARs and haven't liked it much as the weapon can be too nose heavy for "patrol" carry, especially if equipped with a light/laser/suppressor or any combination of the three. Ideally, with the proper 2 point setup, you can let the weapon hang in a "ready" "patrol" position without having to use either of your hands. It can also be muzzle down on your back, or muzzle up over your chest, and easily shouldered quickly from any of the three positions. Using the receiver end plate for the rear sling mount instead of the stock mount tightens the weapon up, for carry over your back, or to center it over your body more in patrol carry. The VTAC sling (and the new Vickers) are terrific for this as they can adjust for the different positions. What I really like on the short 10-12" AR is the combination of the receiver end plate QD mount and the LT mount next to the upper receiver. I briefly tried this with a friend's short upper and my lower receiver at the range one day and definitely preferred it to the single point setup. I don't have a short barrelled AR upper (I hate sacrificing frag range but a 6.8 is definitely under consideration here) but if/when I do I will probably go that route for the sling setup. |

I use a JFS Patrol Carry Sling on my RECCE carbine. I love it. Instant hip to shoulder transition. does a great job. I keep my QD swivel just past my Magpul Ladder on a DD 12.0, works great for me. Bought it from Bushmaster's site. I recommend that sling, but....there's lots of options as cited above. Good luck! |

edwin907, I agree with you. I tell guys to wear their weapon around the house with the tac sling on. It may sound dumb, but the daily tasks and aimless wandering around the house tell you pretty quickly what needs to be adjusted. After a basic setup is achieved, start running dry drills (reloads, malfunction clearances, and on target drills), and see what other adjustments need to be made. |
