Who keeps their AR disassembled or assembled in the case?

I thought about getting a short length case that would fit my AR disassembled, as a more discrete method of transporting it. I prefer hard cases though... somethign about soft cases have botherd me. I have a habit of throwing things around and thinking about it after the fact...

Right now I have the case that came with my Bushmaster, but since I mounted a scope on it it doesn't fit when assembled. I have been keeping it in the case disassembled since I installed a Tac Latch and realized the thing was starting to tear up the foam padding.

Also thought about a Pelican case, but i think they run some bucks.

There's an article over at www.md-ar15.com about using a toolbox for a disassembled AR.

I keep mine assembled.  I have one in a soft case similar to a Galati, and one in a hard case.  The hard case was about $70 at Galyan's and has room for several mags and stripper clips around the gun.

I'm currently shopping for another case and will probably go with one of the "discreet cases", most likely from Tac-Force.

Pathfinder,

Have you thought about using a hard takedown shotgun case? They are shorter but wider, I think they would hold a brokendown AR great. I've been looking at going with a double takedown case to move mabey a couple of lowers and 3 or 4 uppers, plus I can't get a ful size case in the trunk of my car.

I have the "assault"/shotgun case from Starlight Cases.

Here is my 16" AR on the top level,  I can fit that assembled.

Here is my 24" AR on the bottom,  it is too long to be assembled, but the case is wide enough to fit comfortably.

I second the Starlight cases.  I have three.  Two are  52".  I put my Rem700P w/ AICS in it.  A Rem 11-87 shotgun in the other.  The third Starlight case is the 38" Assault/shotgun case for my AR15 16" carbine.

The smaller case is a lot lighter and easier to handle than the larger ones.

I'm keeping an eye on this thread. Getting a smaller gun case is now my current project, but I don't want to pay a lot of money either. I need something in the 16"x25" area. Hopefully Ebay has some good deals that I can take advantage of.

If you plan to use it for airline travel spend the extra $ on the Browning/Pelican if other the Starlight will do.
