After looking around for a better case than my bushmaster emblazoned factory freebie, I think that I have settled on the Eagle Disreet case. However, I was wondering if there were any recommendations for other types(Hardside included) that are low profile designs?

Eagle cases are the best.

Eagle is always a good choice.  They are just way backed up, generally.

Might not hurt to check out Tactical Tailor also.  They make good stuff.

Take a look at www.lightfighter.com.

Brad is an advertiser here and has a selection of carry cases Eagle and Blackhawk.

Thanx Fellas,

Looked into the Eagle Discreets.  Brad was out of stock at lightfighter in the size needed but, oddly enough bushmaster had them in stock for a bit less.  They cust serv rep confirmed they are Eagle discreets so, hopefully it'll show up as described.

There are plans to make one at:

There is also a guy here in SoCal who makes this ready to go, one for carbine and one for rifles. I'll try to get the contact info.

Eagle makes a great rifle case, but unfortunately they seem to be always backed up in production.  If you can find one, its always a good day.

Galati International has a decent alternative at about 2/3 the price.  I switched over to Galati about 2 years ago, due to Eagles problems, and have been very happy with the service I get from the Galati products.

Does Galati make a square discreet case? I haven't seen one. I do like the EAGLE case but they are in short supply. Something I have found that I like is the cases sold by CAV arms with the molle webbing sewn all over the one side. I can fit both my M4 and my SPR into the 36 inch size and for $30.00 they are hard to beat.

I'm an Eagle man from way back.

Tactical Taylor makes a nice product too.

Galatis run under $50.

After owning several top quality softcases from the original Assault Systems to Eagle Industries - although Eagle is bomb proof as it gets-, I've found Waller and sons make the best non-gun appearance softcase.

In fact, I've been using their lockable soft safe, and it’s still holding up well after 11 years of regular use.  Another plus is that their outer Cordura material is treated with a water repellency finish. I have transported them in light rain where the water simply beads rather than absorb.

While Waller is priced higher than most manufacturers, they offer quality and features you won’t find anywhere else.

I don't think Galati has come out with a discrete style rifle case yet although I have heard rumors of one in pre-production.    My local dealer apparently talks to Frank Galati on a regular basis on new designs.

A few months ago, they did come out with a 1)drag bag and a 2) combo rifle case / shooting mat that are around 2/3's the prices of Eagles with no lose in quality.      The Galati rifle case / shooting mat is kind of a combination of the Eagle DB-BS and shooting mat at a cheaper price  and you can actually find the thing to buy.     I dont' know what happens in Eagle's plant, but they don't seem to be doing a lot of sewing.  They have been using  the military back log excuse for almost 3 years and it is getting kind of old.   You would think they could increase production.
Anyway, as I said, I switched over to Galati about a year ago and am very happy with their items so far.

Galati is working on a square discreet case and it will be out next spring sometime.
If anyone is interested, I do have the Eagle discreet cases and Galati shooting mat/drag bags in black in stock at slightly lower prices than retail.

I also have been using the BHI discreet cases.  Just received a couple more in this week.  Nice closed cell padding, removable mag pouch, and adjustable straps for the rifle.

I totally agree about the Eagle cases when choosing a soft case. Now, as far as the hard cases are concerned, you can't beat that tool box setup for discreetness. If you plan on taking your beloved rifle on a plane trip, there is only one case to consider:

Pelican, pure and simple.

Yes, I know, they are heavy, they are ugly, and, depending on where you get one, they are not cheap.....

HOWEVER, you will not find a more durable case to entrust your firearm to. Trust me on this folks, cuz I work at an airport and I see first hand what happens to your bags once you check 'em in at the counter. Your bags are at the mercy of baggage handlers who are under pressure to move bags quickly. This means that they don't hand them to another, they get thrown like sacks of flour. Additionally, the baggage carts speed along and you guessed it, bags fall out AND get run over by vehicles behind them (this is especially true at night)!

So, spend a few extra bucks on a Pelican case if you ever think you might be needing to take your beloved rifle on a plane ride.....

I have an Eagle discreet 36" and a Blackhawk case, not discreet. Both serve me well. I do not like the way the fabric on the BHI case catches lint though. I have my eye on an Eagle Soft/Hard 35" case for my carbine. That will be sweet.

Hard case = Starlight, hands down! Plus they are located not far from me.

I just purchased a Starlight hard case at Sam's next to Walmart.  Got it for $88 and i can't believe what a great gun case this is..... It will hold both my AR's and it didn't cost me an arm and leg like the pelicans do.  I really like it alot.

questions:
(1) is there a difference in the padding and quality in the higher dollar soft cases?  i have a uncle mikes, do any of the other brands have thicker, denser padding?  also noticed the uncle mikes does not have internal tie downs to keep the rifle from shifing when you pick it up.

(2) what denotes using a hard case over a soft one?  i.e.   you would naturally use a hard case if flying

The mags are sunk in all the way to the bottom,  they can't move.   The gun has plenty of room in its side.    I stick a small square of foam on the gun side to hold it away from the mag side.

I remember about a year ago someone converted a Plano toolbox into an M4 carrying case, and it had instructions.  Does anyone remember how that was done, & does anyone have the instructions for it?

I picked up a Starlight 2 gun case at Sam's club. Not exactly a discreet carry case but protects better than my safe. These are the 2 I usually reach for the most. Holds both my carbine and my heavy barrel just fine.
