I recently bought a Blackhawk weapons transport case from member C4iGrant. I'm very happy with it. Member SlimHazy also bought one. He might chime in with his .223. It carries two longguns (my 20" AR fits perfect), split in the middle with a removable section. Nice shoulder strap plus carry handle. It also will lie flat to use as a shooting mat. Lots of pockets and such. Its designed to hold two longguns and one handgun, plus ammo for all three. Works great for me since I never go to the range with only one gun.

I bought an Eagle Rifle Case and Sniper Rifle Cover/Pad from LightFighter. The Eagle case holds one gun, which is slipped in like a letter into an envelope, plus four mag pouches and a flat pocket on the outside. The Cover/Pad is a three-fold pad with straps for a long gun, can be used for a shooting mat or to lay rifles on the bench/ground. It also has foliage loops, a drag handle, a pocket and cartidge loops for a bolt gun. I have the same BlackHawk case Slacker has, likewise from C4iGrant. The main compartment has a removable divider for two rifles, or the "long" portion of a 3-gun set. The smaller outer pocket is for a pistol, and has Velcro panel and detachable/adjustable holster for a handgun. There's also a pocket for mags/targets/whatever. Both BlackHawk and Eagle stuff seems well built. I could destroy either if I tried hard enough, but neither is going to wear out anytime soon. Whether you decide on hard or soft -side, make sure it has closed-cell foam that won't absorb moisture if you keep it in there for a while.

I ordered one thru Eagle back in October of 2002 and I have still been waiting, then the other day I was looking the Bushmasters catalog and they have them listed in there. I called and ordered one from them and recieved it on Friday May 9th.... so my advice would be to try them

If I had to chose between the two, I would lean to a soft shell for a couple of reasons. The assault rifle cases will have area's for mag storage more than one and in the front, a good one, will have area for misc cleaning tools and tools etc. At the range, any case will do fine but in the field a soft case rules. First, they typically have a shoulder strap which allows you while in the case to sling your rifle over your back. Second, you can open them all the way up and use them to lay your rifle down without leaning on a tree, bad idea. They also tend to not slip away as easy on inclines. I use both but like I said if I could only chose one it would be an assault case.

Anybody know how Mil-Tech cases stack up? Saw 'em at Hyatt Gun Shop (Charlotte NC) and thought they looked nice. Haven't seen any of the usual suspects recommended: Mil-Tec is the only one I've been able to lay my hands on so far. The Mil-Tech has foam interior, much as a pistol case. My old case probably has it also, but it's enclosed (on the inside) with a cloth cover. I do like the semi-hard round handle on the Mil-Tech case, as I've always hated the 'standard' straps forming handles. www.impactguns.com/store/miltec_dswc.html BTW...anybody know of Mil-Tech site? I've done web searches, and so far have come up empty. I did see on their tag they're located in Nevada, MO, and found 'em? using 411.com, but so far, no web site found.
