Anyone have any experience with Hogue or Bushmaster Free Float handguards?  If so, how difficult are they to install and do they improve accuracy?  Any others you might recommend?

The assorted free-float handguards all have about the same difficulty level.  You have to remove the front sigth post so you can replace the barrel nut.  If you have any kind of permanently attached muzzle brake or flash hider then the you're SOL.

As to those two, there are better designs available.  There's a lot of heat that comes off the barrel and neither of those allow for very much air flow around the barrel.

Might want to check out MSTN's "SIR City" post on new models to come out, there's also cheaper ways to go  than ARMS or KAC RAS/RAS II, such as the OLY FIRSH, see their web-site for info...., suggest ya review ALL your options befor purchase.

Thanks for the input.  Guess with my Armalite 20" A2 with permanent "compensator" attached, I am indeed SOL. Better to know up front I guess.

Forgot to mention, all items listed in my post, to the best of my knowledge, DO NOT require front-site or MB removal to install.

I should correct my previous statement, it isn't so much that you can't do it, it's just that *you* can't do it.  You'll need to have a smith remove the brake, install the handguard then re-attach the brake.  Kurt of KKF has plenty of experience at it, and also has his own line of excellent muzzle brakes.  KKF is listed in the Industry forums.

The A.R.M.S. SIR that mr_wilson is talking about also free floats the barrel and like he said it installs without removing anything.  Like he also said, "hang onto your wallet".  I'd love to have one but there's too many other things I need first so the cheaper FIRSH will have to suffice.

Understood, and thanks again to you both for the good info.  I'll make out just fine with what I got.  That's a lot of cash to pay.  Way too much for me.  Pretty fancy rig there you have Mr. Wilson.

i just got my upper back from bushmaster who installed a firsh on it. its a nice setup but there are better out there. bushmaster only charged me $20. to put it on. now i have an AR10a4spr with muzzle brake and it would cost $200. to get an armalite free float tube put on by armalite, this does include the price of the tube and new brake. my advice is to wait for the sir system. even at 400. its a good deal. the system is the best and you will not have to have your brake removed.
