| I would like to buy an electric hearing protector that has the best noise reduction and the best amplification of ambient sounds. This would be great at the range, and for keeping next to the bed incase a BG breaks in at night. It would also be nice if it wasn't too bulky as it's hard to get a good cheek weld on a stock with bulging muffs. I guess I want it all! What have you heard and what has been your experience? |

Yes, Walker Game Ears are very expensive but probably pretty nice. I don't have the money to find out. I like the Wolf Pro-Ears and Peltor Tac 6 (or is it 7?) Both brands offer a slim line style to facilitate cheek welds, though the slim models do not have the noise reduction of the fatter models. While the Peltors are great, I prefer the Pro Ears because unlike most electronic muffs, they never cut sound completely off, the pro ears compress and reduce sound so that you always hear at a safe level. Most models, if not all, will amplify sound - real nice feature at the range when trying to hear someone a ways down the line (I suppose some call that easedropping) Some of the slim line models also fold for compactness, when not in use. The ones with stereo mics are nicer than the ones with one mic - gives you a better sense of where the sound is coming from. |
| I bought a pair of Peltors for around $100.They're probably the least expensive of electronic hearing protection and have a failly slim profile. They drove me batty because I could hear everybodys conversations while at the range.I felt like I had voices in my head.I ended up selling them because they got in the way when shooting my rifles. Now I just use ear plugs. |
