NcSTAR FlipDot Anybody tried one of these yet? Looks like they sell for around $89 shipped. The brand is an immediate turn off, but you never know...I mean, Sightmark and UTG have been putting out some really great quality stuff lately. It sounds awesome if it works as advertised - constructed of solid aluminum, weight without mount is only 1 ounce, uses RMR pattern mounts, and comes with a lifetime warranty. Vism FlipDot Promo Video They're the only company I know of actually producing a folding sight. Hera Arms never released the flip up reflex sight they were teasing 7 years ago... |

Yeah, no. That thing's gonna die within a few hundred rounds on a pistol.

NCStar...
The slomo vid made it look like the sight actually closed and flipped open during recoil. |

This has been needed. Hope it works. Hope other makers come out w/ 'em.

Ill get one and test it on my fnx45
See how long it'll take 45 abuse |

Very cool concept.
Make a spring loaded version where the sight flips open when drawing from the holster, folds back down when holstering and automatically turns off. Don't know how they'd prevent the window from closing at the end of recoil, but that's their problem to figure out. |

Been waiting for a decent manufacturer to come out with something similar. They've had similar things for photography/telescopes for years, straight out of Call Of Duty, but it would have to hold up to rough handling and recoil. http://mycamera.co.za/media/product/6c0/olympus-ee-1-dot-sight-ee4.jpg https://www.photolife.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/OlympusEE1_CLOSEUP.jpg View Quote |

How is the spring pressure on the screen different from spring loaded folding "iron" sights that don't lock in the open position? Looks like the dot is lasered onto the glass so it shouldn't matter if the glass moves around as long as the laser retains zero View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Not only would I not trust the brand, but the point of an RDS is that it’s always ready to go. No thanks.

My iPhone is made in China, but NC Star sure ain't no Apple and the design is an engineering disaster when you think about the diode beam to screen alignment issues.

It's an interesting concept for sure....obviously the brand name is not going to help them at all.
I would be curious to see the dimension of everything while folded. It doesn't look that much shorter than a standard RMR.....I've been carrying my G19 with RMR for months now and the RMR isn't noticeable at all. It doesn't print more, I don't notice it being there. This seems to be searching for a problem to fix. Now...if a slide manufacture, made a quality flip up red dot that sit flush with the top of the slide that would be cool. That would let this expand to even smaller pistols that could be pocket carried without any increase in size. |
