I'm trying to decide on Red Dot vs low power fixed magnification.  If it's a red dot, it will be an Aimpoint H1/H2.

Being that it's 20 inch, it seems like some magnification might be more appropriate, but I want to keep weight down.  I was looking at this scope here.  Was wondering if anyone has used this on an AR and could comment on how well it works?

I am not going to be spending ACOG money on this.  Mid-level Aimpoint money is as high as this goes.

The Leupold Mk ARs are light weight.

I am a big fan of the Nikon P223 fixed 3 power scopes. I have a couple of them and have been very happy with them. Zero resettable turrets, Bullet Drop Reticle set up for the 5.56/223 range of bullets. Works with the Nikon Spot On system for calibration to the actual bullet and velocity you are using. Less money ($150) BUT it is about 5 ounces heavier than the Loopy. Not enough to bother me, but keep it in  mind. Super little scopes for the money.

I have the Leupold on an AR in an Aero Precision ultralight one piece mount.  I just got it and haven't yet even zeroed it though.

I used a 1.25-4 vxr in an aero mount for my 18" lightweight.

I'll third the Leupold vote. Selling mine currently because I switched to a red dot, but in the ADM mount it comes to 16.4oz total (or thereabouts, give or take a few tenths)

Given that a lot of other popular 1-4x scopes start around 16oz before mount, I was very happy with it.

I went the 1.25-4 vxr patrol for my LW 20". Not the perfect scope, but light compared to other LPVs and daylight bright.

I'd go with a TA-33 horseshoe

This except I might go with a crosshair model if I buy another TA33 someday.

Either a Leupold 1-6 BDC in an Aero mount or a TA31F

Per my original post: I won't be spending ACOG money on this.  It's not going to happen.

To the OP can we get a little more info on what the rifle is going to be used for? It looks like from what you picked out rapid engagement at medium ranges is what you had in mind. Primary arms,  vortex, and Burris all make ACOG like scopes at a much more reasonable price. The primary arms one is know for having a really badass reticle. I think all of those retail around or under 500 new.

They aren't precision scopes but they will allow you to rapidly identify and engage targets at a close to mid range (close doesn't mean in your face 3 feet away mind you).

I just ordered a vortex razor lh 1.5-8x32 from primary arms for $550 (regularly $750).

It will be here Monday or Tuesday, I'll let you know what I think.

Youre basically right. Short-medium range weapon. Might also do some yote hunting with it too.

I just replaced my red dot with a Leupold VX-6 with an aero mount. I have not used it yet but for me it is the lightest 1-6x with a BDC reticle that goes to 900 yards. Athlon makes a nice 16oz 1-6x with a 600 yardBDC reticle and great glass.

Any of the options I listed will be acog style optics that don't break the bank

Vortex razor lh 1.5-8x32 came today.

Optics and turrets are very good.  In Aero lw mount it is svelte.

I'll shoot it this weekend.
