I know most say to mount your red dot as far forward as  you can and most mount their scopes further back so if you're using a red dot with a  flip down magnifier, I'm assuming you would want to mount the magnifier as far back as you can. But with your red dot mounted forward, how much space between the two is acceptable or is this not an issue?
Should they always be mounted to where there is only a tiny amount of space between or doesn't it not patter if there is a decent sized gap between the two?

The closer the mag is to the RD, the more distinct the dot will appear.  I think 5/8" is the recommended max gap for many magnifiers.

Aimpoint M4 is very close to my red dot. And the magnifier ends at the CH (maybe a bit more forward)  Both are on my upper receiver

my favorite set up is the aimpoint m4 with aimpoint mag and larue flip mount
BUIS sits just below the mag

I mount my magnifier as far back as possible and the dot as close to the magnifier as possible.

Thanks for the input I'll have to examine my set up when I get home tonight to see what my gap is and do so moving around to find my sweet spot.
