Just curios if anyone has any opinions on the differences between the Primary Arms and Vortex prism scopes. I have one ar15 with a 3x9 scope on it for longer ranges and have another I want for closer quarters.   I am leaning more toward a prism scope over a red dot because of the ability to work without batteries in case of some type of shtf event.  Looking at both Primary Arms and Vortex. I love vortex but Primary Arms is cheaper.  Their one year warranty though doesn't hold up to Vortex's.  just looking for some advice.  If a red dot is better, how do you guys approach the whole there's a zombie apocalypse and I ran out of batteries problem??

Thanks

I dig prism scopes, but can't comment on those brands(even though I was in the market for a Vortex). I have a Burris AR332 and a AR536, both are great durable scopes at a reasonable price. I have Burris's FF3 mounted on my AR536. Scope reticle is black with no battery, obviously, but their "no questions asked" lifetime warranty is what made me grab em. No complaints and I've ran em pretty hard.

I just picked up a spitire 1x. I found it had some slight optical distortion but using the focus ring I've managed to make it more or less okay. While I haven't been to the range yet with it, so far I like it. I actually like the red/green option too. It gives a near perfect cowitness with my magpul sights as well. In some respects I liked the low end aimpoint I found a bit better but it was more than twice what I found the spitfire for so for now I'm going to enjoy the prism.

I'm sure I'll be long dead before any zombie apocalypse but an easy fix is rechargeable batteries and a solar charger. Plus, with zombies you just stab 'em in the brain anyway.

biggest problem with prism scopes for me is not enough eye relief.

I put the Vortex Spitfire 3x on an A3 build last spring and love it!

The scope is clear and crisp enough I have no problem sighting on the 8" gong hanging at 525 yds.

Everyone who's shot it also likes it.  At our New Years Day shoot one guy said he was going to replace a couple of red dot sights with this scope.

The horseshoe around the center is fast for close in and the crosshairs are fine enough for longer range shooting.  Plus the red and green illumination is daylight bright.

I am very happy with mine.

I have a PA 4x prism on a rifle and really enjoy it. One of my best shooting buddies has a Vortex 3x, and it is a solid optic also. Honestly, I don't have much of a preference between the two. The PA was lower priced with a QD, the Vortex has a lifetime warranty.

I do believe PA is going to start offering lifetime warranties on some optics, so be on the look out for that.

I'll preface this by saying I've owned a PA 3x for about 2 hours.  Picked one up off the EE.

Initial impressions are very good. Glass is clear with the limited I've looked through it.  I think this will probably take the place of my Burris XTR 1-4. I like that top notch mounts won't really break the bank too bad and entire setup should be lighter and more durable than a variable power.

Only thing I've noticed that bothers me I the reticle when illuminated is visible while looking direct in the objective lense.  Hopefully some of the Vortex, and Burris owners can chime in if that's case on their prism scopes.  Most likely going to add a kill flash because of this.
