Ok so I realize this may be a stupid question but here goes.

I've had a colt carry handle from my 6920 and I never used it.  Decided to put on my newest build which is psa mid with 16in barrel.

I followed the directions on loosening the screw and setting IBZ.

Yesterday I went to an indoor 25m range and zeroed at 6/3 setting: inner ring peppered.  Went to an outdoor 50m range this morning, clicked back to IBZ and fired.
I was consistently shooting high.  Now I realize that part (all?) of it is my bad shooting, the distance and the conditions.  but does the IBZ retain the accuracy of other settings?  I guess I figured I'd have been a little closer to the inner ring than I was.

Remember that your setting is the near zero.  The round will continue to arc upward past that distance until it gets to apogee and then comes down across the line of sight at the far zero.

If your near zero is 25 meters, it's going to be something of a rainbow.  The round will pass the near zero at 25 meters, keep climbing to about 200 meters (where it will be about 7.5" above line of sight), start its drop, and cross the line of sight again (far zero) at around 320 or 330 meters.

Graphic shamelessly stolen from Molon:

As you can see, with a 25 meter zero, you're going to be about 2.5" above line of sight at 50 meters,  That's why you're shooting high at 50 meters.

That's why most people (the US Army excluded), prefer a near zero at a further point.  It results in less of a "rainbow".  One zero that's very popular is the 50 yard zero.  The near zero is at 50 yards (of course),apogee is at about 140 yards (where it will be about 2.5" above line of sight), start its drop, and cross the line of sight again (far zero) at around 225 yards... after which it drops like a rock.  If you anticipate shooting at about 225 yards or closer, the 50 yard zero has the benefit of never being more than about 2.5" above or below (the 2.5" below being at the muzzle) the line of sight out to 225 yards.

I agree with the other reply of 25M near zero being closer to 330-350 meters, another thing to keep in mind is that the carry handle sight was developed for the M16A2 originally so naturally the calibration of the carry handle will usually be a bit off for the carbine barrels.

If I understand OP he is saying that he set the carry handle to 6/3 -6 clicks or wherever the 200 meter point is on the detachable CHs. What I would suggest op is to set keep it on that setting and get a near zero at 50 yards which produces a far zero of roughly 200 meters. Than if you can find a 200 meter range and you should be pretty close.

Correct.  I zeroed first for 25m. Mission accomplished.  I then went to a 50 range and did the -4 clicks.  I was shooting several inches high.
