I've done some research, but was hoping to get some current input.

For those of you Arfcomers with the NF Unimounts, does the more common A221 allow for optics to be mounted far enough forward for most of you?

Or is it nicer to have their extended A430 Service Rifle Mount.

The A430 is 1.44". While the A221 is 1.5" A difference similar to comparing the more common Larue LT104 to the less common LT158.

Is the .06" difference in height noticeable or unwelcome? There is also the A192 with a height of 1.375". That I fear is starting to get too low for a comfortable cheek weld. But I really have no experience. If they had a 1.5" extended mount I would have paid for it already. Maybe the A221 is just what I need, but others out there have the first hand knowledge I lack.

I may be looking too deep into it, but already went though a Bobro (being discussed in current threads), have a Larue LT104 (not planning on taking it off it's current optic) , and can't afford the Geissele (or find one).

Any input at all would be helpful. These niche items just aren't carried at the big box stores and expensive trial and expensive error is getting, well, expensive.

I would buy the more extended version.  You can always move it closer to your eye on the rail if you need to, but the extra extended portion may be a lifesaver for certain optic combos.  I'd rather have and not need, then need and not have.

And everybody is different but I prefer the lower mounts.  That 1.375" would probably be perfect for me, and it was the one I planned to buy before I bought a poor man's versiin of the Unimount.  I'm using a Gen 2 Warne XSKEL mount and I believe it to be around 1.44".  And yes, you can tell the difference.

The whole purpose of me buying the mount in the first place was the scope I'm currently using combined with my eyes made it very difficult to get behind consistently.  The slightly lower mounts really help me.

Many, many people feel the 1.5" which is roughly industry standard is just fine.  But myself and quite a few others on this board prefer the lower mounts.

ETA:. This is the mount I have.  Poor man's Unimount.  But it's really nice and half the price.  You may or may not be interested.  Just read the specs and it's 1.455". Bout $100 give or take depending on vendor.  Warne Gen2 extended Skel

It depends on your preferred LOP. Unless you shoot all scrunched up or never go prone, you'll be fine with the standard. Most folks have the back of the eyepiece somewhere near the back of the charging handle. If this is you, then you're golden. See pic below.

On the height, I went with the Unimount precisely because of the 1.375" height. It's perfect for me. It is a slight bit shorter than the standard AR 1.5" but I like it better for a scoped rifle...that's just my style. For a precision rifle it's perfect.

I like the unimount because of the heights offered.  I would like to see a 1.2" height offered, but no one makes an extended 1.2" height right now.  I'm using a 1.125 with a Weaver 2-10x36 and it's a pretty good setup.  I would prefer to have a little more offset, but that's only offered with the 1.375" and 1.44" mounts.

Thanks everybody. I decided to make a swing by Sports Optics tomorrow. They're an hr and half a way, but I just happened to be heading out to a camp that way for the weekend.

They only have the A221 in stock, but at least I'll be able to see it in person. For whatever reason, the ONLY place I've seen selling the extended mount at 1.44 (A430) is Euro optics. Which is a fine place to do business, but found it funny that what appears should be the best selling mount is the hardest to find.

By the way, the people at Sports Optics are always top notch. If anyone's ever traveling around southern Louisiana it's worth a stop by.

The 1.375", for many others and myself, is the perfect blend of getting a good cheek weld for running and gunning plus getting a comfortable cheek weld when shooting prone. I believe the 1.4x" heights are usually for 34mm optics, considering the extra diameter. I'm impressed with Geissele's mounts, but their 1.54" height over rail means on a DMR style gun, I will need to use a PRS or Luth-AR adjustable stock.

I'm running a couple Geissele's and I pretty much have to use the Luth AR stock. I'm thinking about selling them for some lower mounts.
