Hi all,

Since I have thankfully been able to acquire a new black rifle, the modding must begin!   What would you consider to be the "best" rear BUIS?

Thanks in advance

Magpul buis.  Ruger makes a decent (cheaper) alternative

Depends.  Budget? What optic are you pairing it with?  What is the use of the rifle? Folding or non-folding?

Sometimes I go with the fixed 1.5 DD.  Sometimes I like the Magpul plastic.  If you want something really small and look at the KAC 300m micros

I never cared about elevation adjustment on a rear BUIS though.  I just sighted them in at 50/200 and called it a day.

This.  But.

I don't even use buis anymore.  I've had more buis problems than I have ACOC or Aimpoint problems...

KAC Micros for me.  I've used several different brands over the years, and the KACs have ruined me for any other.

If you want fixed, then LMT or a chopped carry handle.

I just picked one, then another, of the Ruger polymer BUS.

It's surprisingly very robust and sturdy! I like it. The push button doesn't slice at your hand the way the Magpul does.

Flip-ups - KAC, micro or not, rear doesn't matter too much.  ARMS 40 get a lot of good reviews as well.

Fixed - LMT

I get Matechs off the EE for $40 or $50 when I don't feel like spending the money on KAC sights.  I also have DD fixed sights that I like a lot, but the LMTs are a little more versatile.  I've been wanting to try the Troy HK front sight as well.

How do the matechs rate?  Got a 6920 new, in trade.  Came with carry handle and a matech buis.

Depends... CQB or longer ranging?

For CQB, I love the KAC 300m

For ranging, I like the KAC 200-600m

Magpul comes in a close second with their MBUS Pros

Non ranging

Ranging

The problem I have with the Magpuls is that they are folded flat with their small aperture deployed. This does not work for me in an HD situation so I either have to remove the hinged small aperture "door" or leave it folded forward.

I wonder how are it would be to just knock out the pin that holds the small aperture....if it is one that will likely only be used for HD/CQB

I never use BUIS, but if you must, then the Magpul MBUS is cheap and works.

I've used YHM, ARMS, and Magpul MBUS polymer and MBUS Pro, and actually like the Magpul polymer best for true "back up."  I will only use my open sights if the red dot fails, and if I am looking for precision in an iron sight I use fixed.  Just my preference.

It comes out easy. I just hate having to keep track of tiny parts that "I might" need one day.

Ok.  I'll say it. Troy battlesights, fixed or folding, M4 front.  I like the folding the best.

I don't have any complaints.  They are easy to use all around.  I see some older ones that won't stay down anymore, not sure how much it takes to get there though.

I prefer a carry handle if you don't plan on optics.  I love carry handles.

They are fine, but zero it and leave it down. The pop up rear sight "tower" is help down by a small tab which will eventually wear out. The more you pop it up and put it back the faster it will wear out.

I think all in all people over think some things way too much. "Which _______ is best?"

It's a BACK UP iron sight, don't over think it.

Also while LMT makes it very nice A2 style non-folding backup sight the Rock River Arms version has a much nicer mounting hardware set.

The only buis that i hate is the matech.. they wear out then they start popping up with every shot. im not a huge fan of magpuls. I have used toy, ARMS, KAC and I really like all of them. My personal fav is KAC

If you're looking for the best then you want KAC as others have stated. Micro front and 2-6M rear is an awesome setup.

Yes - the Pro will work.  Most BUIS will work as long as you have a standard 'F' marked front sight.

Matechs are great. The locking mechanism for the aperture is friction, so long term use can sometimes wear it down. You can find replacements.

I'M me if you want to offload the carry handle.

I just picked up one of these in OD Green for one of my 7.62*39 AR builds.

Couldn't find much info on them but I wanted a fixed sight and the price was right so I thought I'd give them a shot.

I also considered the Samson and DD 1.5, but Midwest Industries makes solid stuff, and this little guy looks pretty beefy.

If you don't care about the small aperture then just bust out the Dremel tool and grind it down to nothing.  I leave the little arpeture flipped out of the way and it doesn't bother me but if it did I'd have no problem chopping it off.

OK, so I've narrowed it down to the DD 1.5 or the Midwest Ind. fixed.  Any thoughts from the group on one over the other?  The MI is a bit less expensive...
6/27/2016 11:09:56 PM EDT
[#36]
I can't comment on the Midwest fixed sights, but I've been running the DD 1.5s exclusively for the past few years and see no reason to switch FWIW. The last set I got from DSG Arms was like $107.

I have used most of the major brands and I like KAC micros the best.

That said, on future rifles I'll probably just buy the cheaper Magpul version. I typically buy premium optics and I've never had a problem with an optic yet. If money was no object, I would put KAC on everything.
